Will Dean let us select his VP?
Wouldn't that be awesome if Dean next summer let his supporters vote for who they'd like as his VP, like between 4 or 5 candidates...

A. Graham
B. Clark
C. Gephardt
D. someone
E. someone

4. Yes, the more votes Dean puts to the membership the better
That's Democracy in action, and the campaign is really doing the right thing. I wished you had picked a better candidte, but the campaign keeps getting better and better. If you can bring this energy into the general elections and actually sign up new voters and get them to the polls, we'll win easily.

5. Whether we get a vote or not
I am sure the campaign is taking our feedback in consideration in the blogs etc.

6. How about a Woman?
We need to cathup to the rest of the world. I would say Hillary because she's the most recognized, but I would think that she's not the most popular.

The Repigs would have plenty of ammo against her. But there's nothing more the repigs can bring out against Hillary, except old stuff. Old stuff about Hillary don't play any more. Afterall, the Repigs already published her panty and bra size. Dr. Dean likes strong women like his wife and Hillary fits the bill.

12. As long as we want a woman just because she's a woman...
How about a black or hispanic woman to get some more turnout.

23. Tubbs-Jones or Sanchez
Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs-Jones
http://www.house.gov/tubbsjones

Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez
http://www.house.gov/sanchez

I don't know why everyone is suggesting Evan Bayh. He already has a senatorial reelection to win in 2004 (as does Boxer).

7. I do think it is smart that he is emphatic in calling it "our" candidacy.
Whatever happens, this presidential campaign should make the history books, and I mean all candidates.

8. I hope not. The VP needs to be vetted thoroughly
and we don't normally do it.

Personally I would love to see Clark as his VP. I guess if I'm allowed to dream I would love to see Bill Clinton as his VP :-) BTW, this is my 100 post!!!!!!

10. Mosley-Braun
would make a great VP. She has shown compassion and good thinking in the debates, and would bring in women and minorities.

11. well, he's already said A and B are on his shortlist
Gephardt wouldn't help the ticket at all.

Bill Richardson would be good, so would Andrew Young.

15. Lovely!
It is a cool idea, and it would be a huge example of democracy in action--the piece de resistance (sp?) of his populist campaign. Symbolically it has "genius" written all over it. But practically Dean should know there will probably be attempts at sabatoge and plan accordingly

If the rumor is true, I think he is smart to pick Graham. Graham was originally my second choice, after Dennis. And politically, a southern leader with years of experience is a good thing for a Dean ticket.

I think we can win in 04 with almost any combination of the right people-but then maybe I'm an optimist. So I vote YES!

What would be better is to let ALL the democrats pick the VP if/when Dean gets the nomination. Talk about a democratic coupe!

That's what Adlai Stevenson did in 1956. Personally, I'd prefer either Bob Graham, Wes Clark, or Evan Bayh for VP.

19. Graham, Clark, or Edwards would make sense as they are from the South
And in light of Dean's recent (much misinterpreted) outreach to Southerners, he's not gonna look too good below the Mason Dixon line with another "damned Yankee" as his running mate.

More important though is when the other candidates call it a day and let the frontrunner - which appears to be Dean at this point - take on the Bush/Rove machine with no side distractions from other Democrats.

In 2004, perhaps more than any other election year, this nomination has to be settled early. With or without a running mate, our candidate needs a solid 6 months to battle Bush and only Bush, because it goes without saying that those bastards won't be sparing anything in the dirty tricks department.

No disrespect to anyone in states voting in later primaries, but we're all better off if this race is considered over on Super Tuesday.

Hillary, Albright, Boxer etc? Since we are taking it in 2004 we may as well go all the way.

21. I have mixed emotions
I think it'd be awesome if he did. My #1 selections would be Clark give the climate that * has created. I'd love to go for Boxer, but unfortunately, I don't think the time is right.

24. Only If He Needed Political Cover
Dear supporters,

You can pick any VP you want, but the only way we are going to win is with Al Sharpton in that position. Any other choice would be political suicide. You are now free to choose, and I will abide by your choice.

Thank you,

Howard "Straight Shooter" Dean.
