Poll question: Will Dean use direct democracy for the VP decision? |
|
Now that Howard Dean has demonstrated and proved that direct democracy among his registered supporters can work, do you think he'll do the same for the campaign's next major decision should he win the nomination: who goes in the VP slot?
Question: Will Dean use direct democracy for the VP decision?

1. What an interesting thought |
|
If he thinks it helps him win next Nov, he should.

I think we can trust him to find a better mate than Holy Joe, that is if he gets the nomination.

4. If Dean is serious about democracy, it will be choice number one |
|
maybe he could weasel it to choice number two and still seem legit. If not, then this whole finance vote was just so much window dressing.
If he did, I'd vote for him, and he would be in the history books, win or lose.

7. The second is more likely if likely at all... |
|
...simply because VP choices MUST be vetted to prevent a McGovern moment (referring to his VP choice having gotten shock therapy). So they'd vet several candidates, and put those that pass up for a vote. That's if they were to go that route.

I, too, have absolutely no idea how to feel about this one. I definitely don't think that he should allow supporters to pick a candidate for him out of the blue but the idea of letting them voice their opinion on a field that he has expressed an interest in is an intriguing concept.

8. I think it's a great idea, up to a certain point... |
|
Basically, we should be like Congress. We pass a "bill" on who Howard should pick as VP, should he be nominated. He, being the "President," has veto power. However, our 2/3 veto on that doesn't apply, lol. I think he should do it.
Later.

The funding question was either yes/no
The VP question could have all sorts of variables.
Also, the digital divide would have to be accounted for.

10. No way in the world. He will choose based on electoral politics.. |
|
someone that can draw in states and/or constituencies that he is likely to lose in. Bob Graham, for example, to win him Florida. Or Wes Clark to calm those worried about his lack of military experience (unlikely, I suspect, but who knows?). Or someone we've never heard of, for equally calculating reasons.
'Direct democracy' among Dean supporters is likely to amplify whatever weaknesses he possesses in the eyes of the general population.
