Let's make a deal with the Repubs over the memo .... |
|
If they will tell us who "ratted" on the CIA agent, Joe Wilson's wife, we will tell who typed up the memo that they found in the trash can or that they stole off the computer? Fair enough?
Of course, we cannot admit that our memo is as important to national security as theirs. They cannot prove that ours put anyone's lives at risk whereas theirs did endanger everyone that worked with Ms Plame. We can understand their anger at our suggestion that if they do not do their job and give the people a complete investigation, we will start our own investigation. Nobody wants to be called on doing a shoddy job, especially on such an important issue of national security.
However, we can understand their desire to protect their pResident, since they know the Democrats would use his blunders and mistakes against him. Therefore, they must keep the blunders secret. They do not want the Democrats to "play politics" with this issue. The Democrats, dirty dogs that they are, refuse to help them with their stonewalling and coverup. They would rather play "politics".

1. Those whining about that memo... |
|
...apparently didn't read it. Why the hell are their panties in a wad? It was a discussion of strategy for overcoming the stonewalling on the part of the White House to avoid embarrassment.

It has become painfully clear that the republicans intend to white wash the investigation. This note indicates that the Dems plan to have an actual investigation rather then a cover up. No wonder the repugs are screaming, a lot of theirs will go down if the truth comes out.

4. This memo was idiodic. It gives them cover for icing the investigation. |
|
They'll say this memo proves the committee is too partisan to conduct an objective investigation. That the democrats on the committee were using a highly sensitive instrument of government to wage partisan war on the whitehouse. That the democrats have already made up their mind that the WH is guilty, even before the investigation is complete. The republicans will use this memo to stop the investigation in it's tracks. They won't start a new investigation with new people until after the election. This memo will give them cover. It was absolutely stupid for that kind of information to have been put in writing. Now, anything we say will be characterized as partisan . . . a page out of "the memo". What on earth was Rockefeller thinking? Leaks happen all the time. He had to assume that anything like that would be leaked.

7. Like they need a reason to accuse Democrats of "partisanship"? |
|
They may think this memo gives them cover. In fact, it exposes their desire to stonewall and prevent a full investigation from the beginning. It only validates their intentions. If the truth happens to be "partisan", does that make it bad? No, America doesn't deserve to know the truth about 9/11 and the decisions that were made on that fateful day. It's all just "partisanship" by those evil, liberal Democrats.

10. They'll say this committee absolutely, positively cannot be partisan. |
|
And that this memo clearly shows the democrats on the committee are partisan. Ergo, this committee must be dissolved. A new select committee on intelligence must be formed. A new investigation must be commenced. Oh, now we are getting too close to the election, so the new investigation cannot start until after Nov 4, 2004.
As I said. They can use this memo to blunt our criticism on stonewalling. They'll say the reason they are stonewalling is because the partisan democrats have already made up their mind that the WH is guilty. They will hold up this memo to prove that the democrats on this committee are partisan and that they have already concluded the WH is guilty. So, therefore, the WH cannot work with this committee.
Thus, this memo should have never been written. It was stupid to give the republicans this much cover for stonewalling.

11. However, the rules of the committee permit the minority to investigate.... |
|
on their own, if that is their perogative, is that correct? At least, that is my understanding. So it appears that the Democrats will have to investigate on their own if there is to be any investigation at all...all the while the Repubs are screaming "partisanship"..

12. Only if they get 5 out of 8 signatures. |
|
Any hope of getting one of the republicans to cross over and give the minority the fifth vote they need went right out of the window with this fucking memo. These kinds of strategies MUST NOT be put in writing.

19. I heard it on C-Span on Friday. I'm looking for a link for you. |

They said that one side or the other could launch their own investigation if they could get 5 of the 8 members of the select intelligence committee to sign on.

16. What the heck is wrong with being partisan? |
|
Was Ken Starr partisan? Of course he was. Why are the Republicans allowed to be partisan in special investigations and Democrats just shirk from the criticism? Partisanship is a motivating factor which is badly needed because the Republicans NEVER intend to give up their own. It has to get ugly before we get down to the truth. It all depends on which team wants it worse. Right now, there is a compelling public interest to get down to the facts and the Democrats are fighting on the side of the public. NO ONE expects the Republicans to cooperate. NO ONE. They never have in the past and they're getting worse.

We can't worry about "partisanship". We owe it to the people to get to the truth. If it gets ugly, that is just the price we have to pay. Let it get ugly baby!

5. That memo needs to be read over and over again. |
|
After all it's keeping in line with the wishes of the majority of America for an independent investigation. For Stupid insannity to call the memo treason show you that they know that the Plame ordeal is a treasonous crime.

Let the evidence the Senate Intel Cmte gathers, speak for itself. It's not the Dems that will shed a bad light on Bush, it's the evidence that will do that. The GOP is simply trying to divert the focus away from that and doing a laughable job while they're at it. The media hasn't covered this for the most part because there's no there, there. :D

nail their asses to the wall for STEALING the memo. This smells like the Watergate Hotel break-in to me....it's a tinge of that. They were trying to get some dirt on Rockefeller and stole it. If I were the Democrats, I would do a sweep of my office every morning for those infamous Ashcroft bugs before starting my day.
