Headlines in today's Charlotte Observer |
|
If people would just read the news, the Repukes would not have a chance. Take a look at some headlines of the from the front section of today's Charlotte Observer.
"Copter crash kills 6 in Iraq" - Interesting headline. The headline makes it seem like a pilot or mechanical mishap. They could have said, "6 soldiers die after being shot down by Iraqis"
"Turkey withdraws its offer of troops for Iraq" - More evidence that we're going it alone here.
"Pelosi critical of signing images" - Kinda funny article that notes how, in the photo of Bush signing the abortion legislation, he is surrounded entirely by smiling males. There is not one woman in sight.
"Bush policy could limit democrats' questions" - The Bush White House, irritated by pesky questions from congressional Democrats, will no longer entertain questions from opposition lawmakers on the House and Senate appropriation committees unless they run through a GOP committee chairman first. In other words, you can forget about learning how much the White House spent making and installing the "Mission Accomplished" banner for Dubya's photo op on May 1.
"Dean says war wasn't justified" - Dean says US force is not warranted simply because a nation is ruled by a despot.
"Clark: I won't get us into a mess" - Clark notes that we did not exhaust diplomatic possibilities before invading, and we don't have a plan.
"Bush praises job programs, raises funds in Winston-Salem" - The article mentions that since Bush got 56% of the NC vote in 2000, NC has lost 140,000 mfg jobs. It says even Republicans are critical the GOP will not force sanctions on China because despite its unfair trade practices.
"9-11 probers blast delays by military" - The independent commission investigating 9/11 is being stonewalled by the White House and the Defense Department. Investigators are complaining of serious delays in obtaining necessary records and documents. The commission has issued a second round of subpoenas.

if threads like this are left to stand in LBN, can you imagine the confusion and endless non-LBN threads that would be generated?
The rules and posting guidelines for this forum are quite clear.

7. Yes, but did you see the protest picture? |
|
I was quite excited to see that the protest was covered on the front page until I realized that they had managed to get a picture of a person holding the "Socialist Worker" right smack in front.
People, when are you going to learn? I don't care how left-wing your policies are, but you need to at least look mainstream when you get out in public for these protests. I know that many, many mainstream Democrats and others were at this event, but the press is going to go for the most out-of-the-mainstream photo-op they can get.
By the way, the protestors were encouraged to bring food items for the local food bank as a way of protesting the exorbitant price of the fundraising dinner. Did this act of charity get front-page coverage? No, we got a picture of someone holding up the "Socialist Worker"!!!!
I will give you a hint - holding up a copy of the "Socialist Worker" is not considered mainstream by most North Carolinians, nor by most NC Democrats or anti-war protestors, but this one socialist has managed to make the whole movement look like a purely socialist movement. If you want to get your point across, go for the mainstream and stick to the subject. This protest was against Bush and his fundraising machine. It was not about promoting socialism. This socialist protestor just did more to help Bush than any of the high-dollar fundraiser attendees at the dinner. Get a clue!
