Treats for Troops (but I can't send a pkg til I stop crying)
I know no one in the military, so thought I'd send a care package. The first site I found was "Treats for Troops." I clicked on a button to "adopt" a soldier. Since I'm a Texan living in Michigan, I was torn between choosing a soldier from Tx or one from Mich. This looked like it was going to be alot of fun. Then "my" soldier's mini profile popped up: hobbies, likes, dislikes, things he/she misses about home, etc. I was surprised to find myself crying so much that I didn't continue. It hurt too much to think that, for all I knew, this person could already be dead. Dead for the Bush family. Dead to fatten the pockets of chickenhawks. It hurt to think that this person should be home for God's sake. I didn't even know this person... so what must families and friends of soldiers be going through!

I don't have much money to spend for a soldier, and any "foster" soldier that pops up couldn't do worse than to have ME send a care pkg. But I'll do my best. I just have to stop crying first.

And I know some of y'all have read these letters from dead soldiers in the NY Times this morning:

http://www.nytimes.com/2003/11/11/opinion/11INTRO.html?pagewanted=1

That last letter has wiped me out for the day.

I hate my government. I want my country back.

1. You have done a wonderful thing...
a lot more than many others have done. Be proud of the fact you took the time to help someone so far from home. Whomever your 'adopted' soldier is, I hope he/she realizes how lucky thet are to have you adopt them.

 every vet thanks you!

3. Those letters are gut wrenching
I can't even imagine how these families are feeling, much less dealing with their losses. I just don't know how the cartel can live with themselves knowing they are needlessly destroying so many lives.

Please do not let this deter you from doing something for someone who is stationed there. Your generosity of spirit will be forever appreciated.

6. thanks and I'm sorry you are hurting...
I didn't know about Troops for Treats. Thanks for letting me know about it so that I can do something, even though the gift is small, to make myself feel better on Veteran's Day.

7. It' A Shame
Patsified
God bless you for your outreach and compasssion. I will do the same. But is it not a shame that the site exists, exists because of this Bu$h*t so called govt. that has put our men and women in harms way for their Faustian machinations and nothing more. I too hate this govt. and will do everything I can to undermine it's evil head!
I am brought to tears everyday at the end of the Lehrer News Hour when they show the faces of the KIA on the screen. I sit there blessing their souls and ask the Lord to comfort their families.
