Wisconsin governor vetoes anti-gay marriage bill
http://www.advocate.com/new_news.asp?ID=10420&sd=11/11/03

Wisconsin governor Jim Doyle vetoed a bill Friday that would define marriage in Wisconsin as solely between one man and one woman, saying that state law already clearly prohibits same-sex marriage and the legislation was "mean-spirited." State law now defines marriage as a contract between a husband and wife. But supporters said another law was needed to ensure that gay marriage would not be allowed or recognized in Wisconsin. They warned that activist judges could interpret existing statutes loosely and redefine marriage to allow gay couples to wed. But Doyle said the bill was "redundant and unnecessary. This bill is just another example of the legislature focusing its time and energy on divisive, mean-spirited bills that do nothing to grow Wisconsin's economy, make health care more affordable and accessible, or improve our public schools."

Send this man and thank you note!!!!!

2. Go, Jim
As a former AG, he certainly is not afraid to tell it like it is. I'd just like to see the fact that the repug controlled houses are wasting time on pet partisan issues get some traction here. He's right when he says the repug houses need to focus on real legislation that will affect real Wisconsinites. After 9 months of a Dem Gov and repug houses, nothing substancial has been passed except the budget. Nearly everything else they have worked on has been guns, god, gays and abortion and has been vetoed, thank goddess.

3. The Repugs here are doing this for political gain
They don't care about defending marriage, or concealed weapons. They had 14 years of Republican Govs and every chance to try to pass these laws. Now that we have a Democratic Gov, they do this, knowing, KNOWING, that it will be vetoed.

Cue the campaign ad: "Doyle wants to take away your guns and let gays get married, which will ruin your marriage."

We need to take a cue from Illinois and run the corrupt Repugs out of the state on a rail...
