vice president
It just occurred to me again and I thought I'd bring it up. Why is there so little discussion of picking a woman as vice president? (and I don't mean Hillary).
Anybody have any ideas on this, regarding talk of it, possible choices for any candidate and what it would throw into the mix?

3. I think America is ready...

(in response to jenk.) After all, Mondale picked Geraldine Ferraro as his running mate.

Now, although that campaign lost only by a hair's breadth as we all know, the country has already seen a woman on the ticket. What's more, we have a woman running the House Democratic caucus (Rep. Pelosi) and there are female governors all over the place. What's more, I think the buzz about Hillary Clinton running shows that America (or at least the media) is eager to see women in the national spotlight.

I think the issue is: which woman would truly be an asset to the ticket? Hillary Clinton might, but that's debatable (especially since she's such a polarizing figure). Carol Moseley-Braun might. There are plenty of prominent women in politics. The question is which one of them would be as much of an asset as the people whose names are already being thrown around (like Graham, or Clark or Edwards in certain cases).

4. I think..
..Clark/Mosely-Braun would be a pretty darn good ticket. I don't know all that much about her though--seems like she might be easily-smeared.

5. I think we might see two this year
If the Pubs decide to blame Cheney for Iraq and toss him over, they may put a woman in. Would Olympia Snow agree in order to be the first woman vice-president?

And if they do, we have to and might anyway. Carol is gaining more respect every day. There's Blance Lincoln, Mary Landrieu, Dianne Feinstein. Lots of good women to choose from, and Dianne in California would offset the Arnold thing.

It'd be a great year for a woman VP with health care and education as major issues as well.

6. As a female , I look forward to supporting the first female VP /Pres

But, the selection of a VP in a country this divided (supposedly, at least), is really going to require picking the right balance to the ticket to make them the most competitive team possible, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity. Mondale chose Ferraro, not because she best balanced the ticket, but because she was a smart, female politician, quite worthy of the job, and Mondale (incorrectly) believed it was time.

Well, eventually it will be time for the "right" woman, the "right" Hispanic, the "right" African American, or other minority. But the stakes are too high to prematurely push ahead, just because we think the time "should" be "right,"-- and in the absence of that candidate who can bring the exceptional mix to the ticket.

And, I agree with some who suggest if the Pugs were to throw the nod to Condoleeza or Olympia, then that throws the door wide open.

7. You may not mean Hillary
But I think the possibility of Hillary as a VP candidate is likely. The degree to which would depend on the nominee, of course, but I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Clark/Clinton.

8. hillary
I'm from New York.
I voted for Hillary.
That said, I am wary of her for vice president or president for a reason, that oddly enough, connects to George Bush. I don't think the United States should be a hereditary system and since she is married to a former president, this is too close to comfort for me. It is not that I have anything against her for being married to Bill Clinton (although that would be used against her by the opposition).

9. I would LOVE to see Ann Lewis or Ann Richards
There are too many to list that would be not only good but best choice possible. I don't have too high of hopes though after all it is still a Man's World. This is "Gun Totin America" after all.

10. Stephanie Tubbs-Jones
Congresswoman Tubbs-Jones of Ohio would be the perfect running mate for Kerry.

There's also Mary Landrieu and Loretta Sanchez. Some people have suggested Janet Napolitano or Kathleen Sebelius, although I think it will be too early for either of them by 2004.

Blanche Lincoln would also be an excellent choice, but not while she's up for reelection in 2004. Lincoln can have her shot in 2008, or in 2012 if the Dem wins in 2004.

12. One of the main reasons is that some of the best female candidates
Are running for reelection in 2004 (Sens. Lincoln, Murray, and Boxer). Also, some of the newer governors could eventually be contenders (Janet Napolitano and Kathleen Sebelius). However I think there are several very good female candidates for Vice President:

Sen. Mary Landrieu
Rep. Ellen Tauscher
For. Gov. Ann Richards
