Attention Dr. Dean--the South is a State Of Mind and it is spreading |
|
Edited on Tue Nov-11-03 07:52 PM by frank frankly
The effects of years of race baiting have extended well past the Mason-Dixon line.
That is because it is more of a COUNTRY versus CITY phenonmenon.
Nascar is comfort food for the angry white male, all over the country.
It is the sport of WHITE MEN who are believe that black folks get preferential treatment while exibiting "reverse racism", who are mad that blacks have taken over the other sports, who love FAUX and Limbaugh, and who listen to country music.
I applaud Dr. Dean for opening a dialogue about this deliberate division created between whites and blacks by Republicans and their RightWing Media. I only hope he continues to elaborate and better state the problem facing us, especially those of us making under $30,000 a year.
Kudos, Dr. Dean, for choosing to make this issue an issue.

2. FF - Excellent post. Totally agree. That's what I like about Dean. |
|
Yes, he may be "clumsy" at times, but he is fearless and willing to be courageous enough to take race openly.
It's provocative in what he is questioning. Hey, all you people in the South who USED to vote Democratic, why do you now vote Republican? What has the Republican party done for you? Did you get a raise this year? Has the minimum wage been raised? Do you & your children have health care? How about your children's schools?
Bravo to Dean.

7. Your wrong on NASCAR fans |
|
It is the sport of WHITE MEN who are believe that black folks get preferential treatment while exibiting "reverse racism", who are mad that blacks have taken over the other sports, who love FAUX and Limbaugh, and who listen to country music.
I too am a southern male, who happens to dislike NASCAR. But am surrounded by NASCAR fans who are family and friends. NASCAR is not the sport of white men who hate blacks or mad that they took over other sports. Especially here in NC where college basketball is king. And what skin color dominates basketball?
The stereotyping of NASCAR fans and white males in the south with negative images is clearly a major problem that is causing us to lose votes. And comments like yours are not helping.

I am speaking from my own experience. I should not say all Nascar fans are like this...once again, this type of discussion is tricky.
And I know many a white fan of black players who are still very racist. The apparent conflict of interest isn't there.
Once again, this is based on my eyes and ears.

9. My eyes and ears as well |

I remember attending a basketball game of my colleges and there was a group of students holding a sign with the college name and referencing basketball as a "black thing".
Now, do I suspect that all basket ball fans of that college dislike whitey? No. And to paint with such a brush, as you have, would be wrong.
And if memory serves me right, more women watch NASCAR than men. I guess its a bunch of racist white women too.

Magic, those votes will stay gone , and pandering to them wont help. Liberals/ progressives and the repugs/consevative white folks are ideological opposites ,and that will never change till racism is no longer a political force. Correct me where I am wrong but all it takes is a little Willie Horton comercial and they line up behind the " conservative" candidate.By the way when is the last time you have heard a white guy tell a off color joke or use the n word ?

21. Auto racing in general is all-white. |
|
I am a raving Formula 1 nut. No black man has ever raced in F1, and if you say I have the "Southern State of Mind" I'll be thoroughly un-nice to you.
I don't have a good explanation why it is so. IRL, CART, ALMS, DTM... all major categories, it's virtually impossible to find a black person. Even Brazilian Stock Car.
