He had a good chance before. Can't see it happening now

1. I would say yes.
But Edwards has been a sinking ship for a while. He won't even carry NC against Bush.

2. Hardly
Politicians posture all of the time over issues like this but it doesn't mean anything in the long run.

Clark is playing a game - the same game that most candidates play in this position. That's one reason the complaint came from one of his staff and not directly from him. He needs to rev up his base while really staying above it all so that he's not personally attacking Edwards. He's got to keep his powder dry so that down the road, he and Edwards maintain the flexibility to go off hand in hand if circumstances warrant.

Candidates don't take this stuff nearly as seriously as their supporters do. Whoever the Democratic nominee is will select a running mate who will best help them win. They put the personal crap behind them.

Clark is playing his very smart.

7. That's right. Ronnie still took Poppy,
after the latter trashed his entire 'economic program'. JFK took LBJ, even though Bobby hated him , and the two sides had fought bitterly at the convention in LA.

The real winners are able to keep their eyes on the prize.

4. And Hugh Shelton is a scumbag because...what?
Because he say's that Clark has some integrity issues?

Clark seems to have put those issues on display today announcing his position on the flag burning amendment.

20. Since most in the Dem Party (i assume)
do not support a flag burning amendment, how does Clark speaking out in favour of it indicate that he has integrity issues on this position?

The Democratic party should have learned by now that it isn't a good idea to tell progressives all over the nation to get screwed while they pander to one regressive demographic.

8. It's Rare that One Candidate Chooses Another
Last major occasion that I recall was 1980 with Reagan and Bush.

Which is why I think Dean, if he were to win the nomination, is more likely to pick a fellow candidate as running mate. The Reagan parallels are quite striking insofar as those analogies go.

10. No: reasons
No,
First it's still possible that Edwards might win.

Second, the purpose of the Edwards/Shelton criticism was to impugn
Shelton as partisan, not Edwards.

11. I didn't think that Edwards was gonna be Clark's VP regardless.
Dean or Kerry would be more likely.

14. Clark is addressing Edwards because he needs to.
Once either of these candidates gets past the point where one is the likely nominee, the other would be the most likely VP selection.

I question how much anyone who thinks otherwise really knows about politics.

17. Edwards is nervous...
Clark is beating him in SC polls now and he is only 1 point behind Edwards in the NH poll that was posted here tonight.

I hate that Edwards is stooping to this. He was always my #2 or #3 guy before. Not now.

19. Stooping to what?
Having the former chairman of the joint chiefs advise him on national security matters? Give me a break.

I used to like Clark, and I even used to think he'd be a good VP for Edwards. I was able to forgive voting for Reagan, but I can't support someone who spoke at GOP fundraisers in 2001. Sorry, but that's just me. The whole flag burning thing is just icing on the cake.

Lets take a look at the record here - Clark dropped out of Iowa, where Edwards has been steadily moving up over the past few months.

Clark was pinning his hopes on NH, but now Edwards is beating him there.

Now Clark is trying to START his campaign in the third round of primaries. If anyone really thinks that he'll be able to do that after not placing in the top 3 in NH, they don't know too much about politics. True, one poll put him above Edwards, but 4 out of the last 5 put Edwards on top.

Looks like Clark just blew his chance to be Edwards' veep by having some campaign lackey send this letter to Edwards.

18. Geez, John.
Pissing off Dean, now pissing off Clark. I guess he REALLY doesn't want to be anyone's VP pick.

Later.
