Any other DUers watching the ABC interview of Pvt Lynch?
(I looked but didn't find another GD thread about it)

Her "excellent adventure" started because the Captain highlighted the wrong road on their map. They should have turned left but kept going straight, right into the ambush.

1. I'm kinda sorta watching it.
It's not exactly a riveting interview. Nobody would be able to watch it were it not for the reenactments.

5. she looks like
a junior high girl on the way to a yearbook staff meeting. She is a symbol, but not a symbol in the way the Bushies would like to display her ... she's a symbol of a small-town girl who wanted to get the hell out of West Virginia and earn some money for college ... who wound up battered and scared in the middle of Dubya's Folly.

6. I'm watching it
Mainly what I am getting from it so far is there's been a lot of lies about her being told and the personnel in the hospital saved her life and treated her well. They even went back and interviewed some of the nurses and doctors and Jessica had good things to say about them. No one hurt her there at all. It's just propaganda. Surprised?

8. Sawyer decides in favor of anal rape
pretends to be skeptical, asking Rick Bragg a tough question, and giving an Iraqi doctor a chance to comment.

But she points out that the doctor "admits" they didn't specifically check for anal rape, and she concludes by discussing how Jessica is going to deal with what happened to her.

A real news organization would point out that the military doctors completely shot all their credibility into eternity by making up other discredited stories about this case. She doesn't say a word about any of that.

9. The big question is how did Jessica's Med Records get out. She had to
sign a release. Unless she was being investigated in a law suit...her records are hers. So, where did all this "anal rape" come from? And, did she claim that's what happened to her?

10. No, she said if it did happen she doesn't remember it.
I watched the whole interview. She spoke well. She (and her family) is relieved to be back home. I did like the way she paid respect to those soldiers that helped save her life and rescue her, and also the ones that died there. That Bragg guys looks like he's out to make a quick buck. Jessica didn't want him to put the rape thing in the book but because she isn't 100% sure, she let him print it in the book (and probably his fast talking persuasion). If a person was raped, wouldn't she be bleeding thru her anus? The Iraqi doctors would have noticed that, imo.

All in all, it was a good interview. Her parents told Ms. Sawyer that they still support the war. Sigh!

11. yeah, that was bogus
The poor woman had injuries all over from the crash. Diane Sawyer shouldn't conclude rape based on that.

But Sawyer said something like "do you wish you could remember being raped" as if the memories are there.

12. seriously?
"Do you wish you could remember being raped"?

The Stepford "journalist" asked that question?

If so that pretty much justifies the reason why I didn't watch this interview. I'm sure tomorrow morning THAT will be THE TOPIC tossed around on GMA.

:eyes:

15. few things....
Edited on Wed Nov-12-03 01:31 AM by kispoko
i was disappointed at the comments sawyer relayed that her parents made, saying they still supported the war.... but i probably think that has more to do with their son being shipped over there right now than anything else. they, like a lot of people, probably link speaking ill of the war in their minds to somehow damaging their son's morale, and by extension, the rest of the soldiers'.

just a guess....

but what's more revealing is that they didn't ask jessica the same question. or, if they did, didn't bother showing the footage of it or relaying it in the same way.... isn't that really peculiar though, when you think more about it?

overall though i was proud of how she handled herself.... i happened to 'bump into' a cousin of hers, shortly after they rescued her, in the barber shop. the way he tells it, this is a girl so shy she would often go off at family reunions and sit by herself..... now she has all this shit to deal with.... gotta be surreal.
