Poll question: When will Major Combat operations in Iraq resume?
Edited on Wed Nov-12-03 09:53 AM by Walt Starr
Okay, we were told that major combat operations were completed in the Mission Accomplished propoganda event.

When will they resume?

1. What about an option
for "never?"

2. I just don't see that as a possibility.
The generals are already gearing up. The situation on the ground is desperate.

3. It is an option
and should be included. I personally do NOT think major comabt ops will begin again, and, since this is a POLL, you need to account for the few who believe as I do. Why have a poll, if we are just going to go by what you "see...as a possibility?"

4. Nope, I do not consider it an option
If you do then your appropriate reaction is to not vote in the poll.

5. So
only your considerations are allowed in this poll? You realize that makes no sense whatsoever, don't you?

6. I created the poll. I get to decide what valid options are
That's the way these things work.

I've asked for additional options on these polls before and they were never put up, ergo, I refuse to add any other choices to this poll.

10. That's how an internet poll works
Look at the one on Bill Frist's site.

Yeah I'm with you on this.

While things are a mess in Iraq I dont think there will be anymore "major combat operations."

IMO Major combat operations would be like having an armored spearhead rolling through the desert or something like that.

Things are picking up, but this is still "low-intensity" warfare.

People getting picked off in 1s and 2s not 10s and 20s.

Its still a tradgity, but it isnt major combat.

16. 10's and 20's?
22 died in the blast today.

Are we resuming major combat operations now?

Do you figure more than twenty will be "picked off" with the 1 ton bombs we're dropping at this moment?

Oh well,

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!!

A thread in LBN notes that MSNBC says we're bombing now.

12. Bombing
is not necessarily "major combat ops." I guess it all depends on our own definition of MCO.

14. Ditto
I think Major Operations are underway and that we will see things ramp up from here on, with a notable surge through the end of this week and weekend. Then it's anybody's guess. Hold on tight. It's going to get bumpy.

With a prayer for peace, SH

17. It won't be called "Major Combat Operations"
Until the Pentagon calls it such or until a major US HQ post is overrun and/or destroyed. Perhaps also if the US retreats from their zone in Bagdad for an area that can be better protected...

My take, having been through the Reagan era military and seen the results of several "low level conflict" operations, until a general and his/her staff are considered casualties or "Duty Status Unconfirmed" and there's some serious real estate damage to an O-club, it will be considered low level - no matter how many daily casualties are accrued. After all, the same greedy chickenhawk a*-holes that were "in command" back then are now directing military traffic in that area.

U.S. Forces Launch Operation in Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Iraq - U.S.-led coalition forces launched a military operation in Baghdad late Wednesday, targeting a facility used by insurgents and setting off explosions that reverberated through the Iraqi capital.

<snip>

Launching an operation definitely qualifies as a major combat operation.
