They're going to start another war |
|
Not sure where (perhaps Syria), but I get the feeling these guys are gearing up for another invasion. Too much that's gone on recently points to such: $87 billion, new troops, the hasty transition to Iraqi "democracy", recent bombings, and the Syria Accountability Act (or whatever that bill is called) that Byrd railed against today. They're going to run for re-election in the midst of another gear-up. They think the country would be too afraid to switch presidents in the midst of impending war. I think they're sick in the head. Thoughts?

There aren't enough troops. There isn't enough money.
Most importantly, though, it would be political suicide.
W's all about getting re(s)elected right now. No way will he risk that by just up and starting another war. Maybe after the election...

Political suicide. W's #1 priority right now is the 04 election.
Even if they were to start up a draft, which I really don't think is likely, it would be to keep up with the current situation, not to exacerbate that situation.

2. Clark warned us during the 1st debate..... |
|
But the media whores were too busy looking at themselves in the mirror. Clark said, This can't wait till 2004.....they are preparing war against Syria and Iran.
Shortly thereafter, mediawhores put Clark on ignore.
War is good for business of Multi National Corporation.
Too bad dead bodies tend to get in the way.

War is good for business of Multi National Corporation.
It depends on the corporation. From what I've read the computer software industry put a great deal of pressure on India during one of their flareups with Pakistan. War is only good for defense companies. Everyone else loses money when they have to evacuate workers, halt production, etc. The one silver lining to having all US jobs exported overseas is that many companies actually have a greater financial interest in peace.

10. The one that's in Iraq |
|
which is why they're making a hasty transition of power. I remember seeing some blurb about how the Iraqi police force outnumbers American troops. This is who could keep the peace along with the international forces that are already there. With 85,000 fresh troops arriving and 43,000 or so in active reserve, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch, at least in their warped minds. And these guys will reinstitute the draft if they win. Bet on it.
Now, I'm not saying we'll be at war before the election, just in the middle of ramping up for one. It took six months to get Iraq going. They can do the same here.

17. It's a theory I have which is probably bull |
|
It can be done during the rotation period.
If the 50,000 - 80,000 troops that are rotating in to Iraq get there a bit early, and the approx 100,000 rotatin out leave a bit late, then there is a period of 4-6 weeks when the rotating in troops are at a loose end.
israel attacks syria from the south, the rotating in troops attack from the east. israel provides the occupation army and the rotating in troops go back to Iraq and then the rotating out troops leave.
So that makes the attack date March/April 2004.
Someone posted that the gee-whiz rockets and missiles are due to be restocked to pre-Iraq attack levels by February 2004.

with things going so utterly pear shaped for them, i am beginning to go off the idea, they would have to be really stupid to do it.
Unfortunatly there is a very easy reply to that last bit. ;-)

4. I'm reading the current U.N. reports on Iran, regarding their nuclear... |
|
...programs, and I get that same sickening feeling I had leading up to Iraq.
The U.N. basically says they have not been able to determine conclusively if they have a nuclear weapons program (even if they do, so what?). So far, they have only seen signs that it is being used for peaceful purposes, just as Iran claims. Yes, they have hid some things from the U.N., but they are not pursuing WMDs, to the best of our knowledge.
Sound familiar? That was enough, with Iraq, for Bush to spin into :They've reconsituted nuclear weapons! They're hiding massive stockpiles! Drones! Mushroom clouds! Invade! Invade! Invade!!!"

7. Addendum: I agree it won't happen before the election. |
|
But if Bush wins, you can bet we'll be in Iran within months. Even if it means a draft. He'll view it as a mandate for his foreign policy, which to him means a mandate for "invading whoever the hell we want to whenever we want to!" Hell, he thought Election 2000 gave him a mandate!

9. Yes the spin is already starting over plutonium |
|
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The International Atomic Energy Agency has concluded that Iran has secretly produced small amounts of nuclear materials, including low-enriched uranium (LEU) and plutonium that could be used to develop nuclear weapons, a confidential report says. http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/11/11/Iran.nuclear/index.html

23. Another invasion and they'll have another enemy to fight. |
|
The military. Unless they want a new coup, that's an idea that won't fly with the brass. We don't have enough active duty troops so thay called up the guard and reserves. this new callup will take most of the rest of the reserves, leaving nothihng to defend us with.
In order to invade another country they would have to reinstate the draft, and that would take six to nine months to get the draftees to combat readyness. Meanwhile the parents and loved ones of the draftees will be marching on the white house demanding bush be hung in effigy (which is a little town just west of DC).
Of course, this is all moot, because if Captain Codpiece wins election this time, all bets are off.

It's fantasy land thinking like this that has us in the situation we are in.
The military will NOT go against Bush. There will be no military coup. Deal with it.
If you want some proof of this go check on the news reported by CNN/MSNBC regarding Bush/Rummy "cleaning house". They have been tossing generals and replacing them with those more loyal and willing.

24. If there are signs the draft will be re-introduced, then I agree... |
|
I wonder how they'll rig the draft to keep the wealthy people free and clear of doing their bit for king'n'country... in ANY war, THEY should be the first to go anyway, given how much they get from this country in the first place.
That's not synicism talking, that's ethical justice.
But in another light I agree. A 'wartime' president is never removed from power, and every war that shithead* has given the world don't seem like bona fide wars. Much like his continuation of tax cuts, a continuation of war just to keep his sorry pathetic drunk ass in power is a mistake which might destroy us in the long run. Who again is the world terrorist?

to join up. They may not need a draft if the people can be motived by Bush (again).

29. Do they have the manpower for another land war? |
|
I don't know. Unless....
They hit the Syrians with air power whilst the Israelies invade/occupy the territory.
...not realistic...
Maybe * would just pound the Syrians until they defended themselves. Then that would be a certain sign of Syrian aggression!
On to war!
