BBC saying Bush 'set on' handover in Iraq
Bush 'set on' handover in Iraq

Bremer flew in from Iraq at short notice
America's administrator in Iraq has said he is returning from Washington with a message that President George W Bush remains set on transferring power.
Paul Bremer was speaking after urgent talks on speeding up the coalition's handing over of authority in Iraq.

He said that Iraqis were already playing a greater role in the day-to-day running of their country.

Mr Bremer admitted the situation in Iraq was "tough" hours after a bomb devastated an Italian base there.

A lorry bomb which hit the base in the southern town of Nasiriya killed several Italians and Iraqis.

'Difficult days'

"He remains steadfast in his determination to defeat terrorism in Iraq and steadfast in his determination to give the Iraqis authority over their country - authority they are already beginning to assume very quickly in the area of security and in the area of running the Iraqi ministries," Mr Bremer told a news conference.

1. Smells of desperation ....
... and quite unpresidential like panic. Instead of a plan, they are going to rush the transition and leave the place a mess. They could go to the UN, they could say "Yeah, we were wrong - SORRY" but why do that? Rove is rushing this - this is one of the politically driven WhiteHouses ever. His little plan for Bush to go into the Repub convention with two successful wars and a resurgent economy is failing. Instead they have mortgaged our countries future and more kids are getting killed every day.

This is what the neo-conservatives have wrought. Congrats Fox News. Let's see you cheerlead us into hell.

5. The 87 billion was Bush campaign money
and will be used to buy some show of success in Iraq. Expect 100s of stories to emerge out of Iraq of testimonials and praise of George Bush who liberated the people from the suffering endured under Saddam.

2. Bush is a coward
He'll cut and run to save his ass in 2004. Given the handover ain't moving forward, and that the military is using sharon-tactics, he can only expect 365 more dead americans before his next election loss.

To escape the surety of that scenario, he'd rather do what israel did in lebannon when hezbulla drove them out... run like cowards. its the new republican mantra... probably spun as something like job-done-quick-exit and "we won the war.".. so he can get a parade to take him through a texas city by a grassy knoll in an open convertable motorcade...

3. stuck between Iraq and Assad's place
for weeks now, it has been very clear that bush cannot survive the political fallout from what's been going on in Iraq ... lucky for him, voters have very short memories ... he's got to have almost our entire military out of their no later than april or may ... maybe even before that ...

but don't kid yourself ... this will have to be more than a "declare victory and bring the troops home for a nice parade" ... that would be a tough sell and he's running pretty thin these days on credibility points ... i think doing a pretty parade now that we've won a great victory in Iraq is way too risky for bush ...

so, what then? i'm afraid we're going to see our troops "needed" somewhere else in the world to "help combat terrorism" ... you might want to think of it as the next PNAC front ... i've had my eye on bush moving troops into saudi arabia ... we'll see ... the goal wouldn't be to topple the government there ... it would be to "protect it from al Qaeda" ...

of course, we now have the Syria Accountablility Act ... maybe that's a hint ... ain't gonna be no parades ... join the army ... see the world ... i'll stick to my bad pun that involves President Assad of Syria and our troops in Iraq ... it looks like we may be stuck between Iraq and Assad's place ...

4. Spending 87 billion in Iraq will buy a veneer of success for a time.
And probably enough time to get elected.

6. Now chimp in shoes of a real Texan
Decades ago LBJ (authentic Texan) enjoyed what AWOL is going through... Look what happened when that president took his country into a bullshit war..... The only way out for Johnson was to quit...... Bush of course, being a conservative, has no conscience... GW Bush is cursed with the simple fact that his life of lies has painted him into a corner with no easy way out....
