What do you Americans think of Paul Martin?

With Jean Stepping down...I am just wondering what you Americans think of Paul Martin. Here's his site if you want some more info....

1. I'd guess that the vast majority of Americans are clueless
about Canadian politicians. Most can't even name the Democratic primary candidates.

I think that most Americans know that Canada shares a border with the US, but I'd be afraid to know how many don't know which border that is...

2. I'm not American, but I'll talk anyway
I don't trust him.

I've met him in person twice and I could never get a straight answer out of him.

I've been assured by people in the know (no, I can't say who) that he is good on liberal social issues but I think he's more of a small-"c" conservative than the Liberal party is ready for. Watch for huge tax cuts for the rich and slashing of spending (which already caused Canada to drop in the world health care standings).

There's going to be accusations of cronynism that will make Chretien look like an angel.

3. Just looking at his site, he struck me as sort of a Third Wayer
like Blair or Clinton: big on globalization (though from a slightly more Third World-sensitive Canadian perspective) and the new economy, reaching out to Westerners, careful not to say anything too upsetting to anyone anywhere. What's his position on Iraq? Does he have one?

4. I couldn't find anything
To support this...but I'm pretty sure he's against it.
