Lieberman uses confederate flag in new ad
Democratic presidential candidate Joe Lieberman, trailing his major rivals in New Hampshire, takes a few soft swipes at front-runner Howard Dean in a new television ad that began airing Friday.

"I don't think it's right to have raised a divisive symbol like the confederate flag. Or to give up on principles like limiting the amount of money in campaigns," Lieberman says in the commercial

He doesn't name Dean, but the subject is clear. The former Vermont governor recently came under fire for saying he wanted to be the candidate of Southern whites who drive pickup trucks with the Confederate flag. Dean also rejected public financing and the accompanying spending limits during the primary.

This surprised me. I didn't think the flag would be used this early in ads.

I guess Lieberman after easing up on Dean for a few weeks, is back as the anti-Dean.

20. It would fit: Gore is to Lieberman as Lieberman is to Zell Miller
It's like an S.A.T. question.

4. Cue the Dean Bashers 5-4-3-2-1
Here they come now, gleefulling eating their own.

Wait, they would have to agree with Joe.

That'll make for soem interesting logic leaps, as usual.

17. Pardon me but some of us don't consider Dean "our own"
he's got a ways to go yet before we will even consider him. And I thought dissent was patriotic?

Are you saying Dean is Not a Democrat.

or are you saying you are not a Democrat.

Please elaborate.

Thank you.

If we could live by that rule, we'd all be a lot more peaceful around here.

31. Well, another Deanie is pushing this meme about Kerry
Edited on Fri Nov-14-03 01:33 PM by blm
being a CORRUPT Washington insider. Kerry corrupt? The ONE man who has exposed MORE government corruption than ANY other lawmaker in modern history. THAT'S the Dean campaign?

The thread goes on and claims its OK for Dean to lie about Kerry like this, because it's part of the game. He actually DEFENDS lying about Kerry as a campaign tactic.

" Issues are irrelevant in a political campign.

Only the perception matters. Kerry is a Bush enabler and corrupt Washington insider. In case you had not noticed, that is the current great sin in politics. Being an insider, "typical politician." By 2008, it may be something else, but right now that is THE worst thing a candidate can be seen as. Kerry is seen as such, and therefore his campaign is dead..."

15. No, he doesnt' but...
... it's clear that he's just trying to inflict damage on the front-runner. This is probably the DLC's doing - they don't want to see Dean take away their control of the party.

Dean was on Tavis' show last night and quickly and easily got through the flag thing. Tavis agreed with him completely. I can't believe our own people are going to act like this is more than it was.

11. Oh, they are, they are going to. And what totally outrages me
about that isn't that they're making a big deal of an issue they CAN pounce on, but that they're playing wedge politics, JUST LIKE REPUGS DO, in the process.

It horrifies and appalls me.

NOTE: I'm Jewish myself

I could very easily see him swaggering around Auschwitz, proudly wielding the club his Nazi Masters gave him as a symbol of authority.

14. Why is Lieberman even wasting money on negative ads
He has zero chance of winning and he knows it. Going negative does nothing for his campaign and ends up just hurting the party. I think he gets his rocks off by being a prick.

23. An in-your-face parade.
It could be the chili I'm eating, but an image just flashed before my eyes. If it does come down to Dean and we have no other choice but to unite to fight off Bush and our clueless, selfish, self-interested Republican brethern; then picture thousands of minorities taking to the streets waving confederate flags -- showing that they will set aside long-standing disagreements and unite with their former opponents in order to avoid a second term of Bush.

But then again, maybe it's the chili.
