I had tears in my eyes . .
. . and a lump in my throat listening to Mary Landreau last nite, blast the hypocracy and thuggery of the repuke senate gangbangers.

Why can't the other Dem senators express that kind of outrage? That's what get's the attention of middle-of-the-road voters - honest, heartfelt rage at the destruction of our democracy.

When they give Hatch and the other imposters the "honorable senator from . . " treatment - I know they are showing respect for the senate - but the sheeple see that as Democratic cowardice, weakness and hypocracy.

If they said it like it is - like mary said it - those middle-of-the-road voters might think about what is happening in this country - and how their votes are needed to take this country back from the RW zealots.

i.e if we really think the pukes are damaging our democracy, as we say - why the hell do we say they are honorable every time we refer to them?

Go Mary. You make me want to move to Louisianna.

1. Yes but I'll bet twenty people actually watched.
That is the problem. Most Americans will never hear what she said or even that she said anything at all.

My husband and I were very impressed by her obvious passion in standing up for our senior citizens.

2. Mary gets the award for best speaker
She rocked last night... her "I will not yield" to Orrin hatch, her "I'm going to take every minute of it" to whoever was presiding got me fired up... I don't think I'd want to meet her in a dark alley. But when she started talking about men and women dying in Iraq while the Senate was in a 30 hour talk-a-thon over 4 judges, that was it... lost... she hit it so square on the head... with everything facing us today, with all of the problems that need solving, the repugs have the nerve to waste our time and money on this crap...

I dropped her an e-mail to thank her for making us proud, and that she should be proud of herself.

6. Probably because she's from a
very conservative state that tends to be absolutist as far as matters like abortion are concerned.

13. She's pro-choice
She ran last fall against a Bush Clone named Terrell who was anti-choice.

Generalizing about my state causes inaccuracies in perceptions.

16. Why then
did she vote for the Late Term Abortion ban? Since you are from La.? what is your opinion?

22. Just guessing, but more than likely because it would be
IMO, political suicide to do otherwise in La.

Though given the vast amount of disinformation circulating, she could simply not understand exactly what is going on.

OR, perhaps she knew the legislation would be found Unconstitutional and bought brownie points to use later?

Politics can be tricky.

24. I'm against government regulation of a woman's right to choose
in any form or fashion. I think it should be a matter between the woman and her doctor.

In her debates with Terrell, Mary publicly stated that it was a matter between woman and doctor.

I'm pissed that she voted for government regulation of late term abortions and didn't know that she did.

Guess that puts her in the same league with Gephardt which pisses me off.

Still doesn't take away anything from her speech.

Yesterday I was able to go to C-span and catch up by watching the archived videos of the debates, but today I can't seem to find em back. I'm thinking it's just me and my lousy sense of direction again. :(

Besides 'I will not yield'? Is there a transcript available at all? I cannot watch video at all at work, and have a slow modem at home.

14. When travelling the Gulf coast . .
. . few years ago, I knew I was in Louisianna when all of a sudden, every radio station on the dial had great sounds. "Nawlins" was a real Oasis in the south - for a travelin' liberal like me.

(Not entirely shameless kick.)

15. Wanna know why????:
BushCo ran a pro-choice RW whacko against her last fall. I must have had fifty telephone recorded messages from King George*, Cheney, and every other dingbat in the country pushing to get Mary unseated.

They spent gazillions of dollars bashing Mary Landrieu. They ran TV ads making fun of the WALLPAPER in her Georgetown home, trying to paint her as an elitist.

It was very very very ugly. Terrell's main campaign speech was that she would vote for whatever Bush* wanted. Mary's reply was that she would do what she thought was right and would vote against Smirky when she thought she should.

She learned that if you don't stand up to these Repuke assholes that they will bury you.

She was on fire and her speech was music to my ears.
