Are DU readers the most savvy political commentators in the world ?
Seriously, how knowledgeable are the readers of DU? I know they are smarter than the listeners of Limbaugh and Hannity and certainly much smarter than the O'Reilly listeners. On the scale of political website readers, where would you rate DU readers on a scale of 1 - 10? Perhaps this should have been a poll question? The newer posters may have a more realistic response?

1. 10+
Places like FreakRepublic, LucianneTheBat, etc. make my head hurt with what passes for "dialog". Half the people there can't string 4 words together in a sentence, or if they do it's because they added "and it's Klintoon's fault" on the end of rant.

2. I'd say 10
except that a few of the specific candidate bigots rate only a 6.

3. I do agree that the majority of posts on those sites average about....
6 words per response. There are no thoughtful posts on any of them. They are very good at ridiculing and calling names. Not that we are that bad in that area either... :)

it's what you say with them. DU gets an 8.5.

4. As a vising neighbour, may I say that DU is the best!
There is wit, knowledge, and an incredible amount of factual information to be found here. I was so happy when I found this site, it was like a drink of cool water to someone who was very thirsty for the truth about what was happening south of the border, thank you, DU.

6. Mixed
Some people are insightful and skilled commentators. Some are dumber than dirt. Most fall somewhere in-between.

8. I would vote 10 on concerned political commentators....
But 7 on savvy. There are a lot of very good speakers out there.

9. It depends - when DU can control its ranting, petulant, flaming ranting...
...side, and when people can separate wild paranoia and tinfoil hat-itis from issues of substance, then yes, there are some extremely alert and knoweldgeable "analysts" at DU. It's why I like the place, despite the darker side. :)

14. In the world? I give us a 7
Just being mostly Americans, Democrats & directly affected by most of the shit, we lose perspective too easily. No blame, it's natural.

The best political commentary remains sober and from a more objective perspective - the criticsm can be scathing & nonpartisan at the same time.

But I don't come here for that, I'm here to exchange personal sentiments & ideas with smart and decent Democrats - for which I give us a 10.
