Poll question: Greatest Female Senator
Every time I try to list my ten favorite senators, I always end up leaving a couple off of the list. However, since there are nine Democratic female senators currently in the Senate, they can all fit in the poll.

Please pick your favorite (I know it's a tough choice)

1. What? No K. Belly Hutchinson?
I'll go with Barbara Boxer for her tearing Army Secretary Thomas White apart during the Enron hearings. White was an Enron officer.

2. After last night's speech
it's Landrieu, hands down. I didn't know dick about her until last night, and I can tell you I almost fell outta my chair to hear her say things I've been dying to hear said by any senator, male or female. And she did it without being "shrill" or "hysterical" or "bitchy." She nailed it, pure and simple. I'll vote for her for any damned office she runs for in the future. (Can Texans living in Michigan register to vote in Louisiana?)

I missed them. What were some highlights?

10. That was an awesome speech indeed.
I normally don't like Landrieu, but damn, now I think she may be a good running mate for Dean!

She'd take Cheney down in that debate. It would be awesome!

16. People are so easily convinced
You just see one speech and you suddenly love her. She isn't exactly the most liberal senator.

She has supported:

ANWR drilling
Partial-birth abortion ban
2001 Bush tax cuts
War in Iraq

Suddenly after one speech, you all turn against senators like Barbara Mikulski and Barbara Boxer, who agree with most of you 95% of the time and decide to support Mary Landrieu who agrees with you left. People have such short memories.

19. I think the same about Byrd...
Sure, he is articulate and intelligent. But a lot of people here like to ignore his homophobia.

I like Landrieu, though... much more than Byrd.

28. I worded it poorly
All I was saying that a lot of people no longer find them to be their favorite female senators because Landrieu gives one speech that they liked. They need to look at the big picture and not have a 2 day attention span.

36. Maybe we "people" are just excited
that someone came forward so vocally and so strongly at a time when many of us "people" are feeling pretty damned neglected. Just because I said Landrieu kicked ass last night doesn't mean I've "turned against" Mikulski and Boxer. Maybe we "people" just want to hear all the loud voices we can get against this administration. I'm just rooting for the fresh blood, welcoming Landrieu, that's all.

Sheesh. Why does everything have to be either/or? Why all the hyperbole?

22. Mary Landrieu for me, also!
She was dynamic during the 39 hour slumber party. She was superb compared to the hypocritical speeches from Senate Republicans...she spoke the TRUTH! You are so correct, she NAILED it!!!

6. I'm amazed!
I would have placed Barbara Boxer dead last of these women. I watched several lengthy interviews with her and she never came across well. In fact, she had no idea what the minimum wage was.

Mikulski is a giant (in my mind); Landrieu is fabulous; Murray and Cantwell are at least Boxer's equals-Stabenow and Clinton definitiely superior to her (JMO) and Feinstein considerably more powerful and resected.

I'm seriously curious as to why she draws so much support here? Help me understand...

7. She's one of the most liberal senators
I think she has the most liberal voting record (though my Sen. Dayton comes close).

I've always been impressed with how much I agree with her on. I also remember her completely taking down Norm Coleman on CSPAN. She made him look a complete fool (a fairly easy task, but it was still wonderful!).

14. gotta keep it local
I don't know yet if Debbie Stabenow is the best female senator, but she's an excellent speaker, concerned with real people issues (IMHO) but most of all I think she is non-threatening. She's like eveyone's favorite aunt. And she captured a majority of the male voters in MI, over stupid Spence Abraham. No small feat in industrial MI!

I see her having a long future in the Senate. I've seen her in interviews and she's defitely someone that cares about the issues, but is also someone everyone can identify with. Wish there were more like her!

17. Mikulski: one of the few female Senators with serious seniority
obviously, because she was a pioneer, having served at least two terms before the "Year of the Woman" in '92 (?)

Speaking of which, I couldn't help but notice that current Pres. candidate Carol Moseley-Braun isn't even on the list...

Otherwise I would've listed either For. Sen. Carnahan or For. Sen. Moseley-Braun for the tenth slot.

29. How about Margaret Chase Smith?
Her "Consience of the Senate" speech pretty much broke Joe McCarthy's commie persecution binge.

I think if you put greatest in the title, you need to include them all....even if she was Republican.

31. I love Hillary, and last night Mary Landrieu
really did a great job, but overall, I have to go with Barbara Boxer. She's been a force to reckon with for sometime now, and Hill and Mary can pick up her torch and run with it, but for now, Barbara Boxer is the best overall.
