Who is New Yorker staff writer Peter Boyer -- & why he is after Clark?
"Such schizophrenic charges about Clark's role in the Kosovo War -- he was too aggressive; no, he was too timid -- have been percolating in the conservative press for months. But while the charges are not surprising, it is surprising to see them appear in the level-headed, liberal New Yorker. Until, that is, one knows a little bit about the article's author, Peter Boyer."

10. the New Yorker is a conduit for administration

when it wants to get propaganda out to the liberal east coast New York types. This I think is an example of that.

And it won't hurt their credibility because most people know virtually nothing about Clark to begin with.

3. How many people will read Boyer and not get the truth?

Thanks for posting this. And its a crying shame when supposedly liberal-oriented publications give filth like this print space. This man has no business writing for serious journals. His 'puke bias is a mile wide.

4. Thanks ...
.... it's a f***ing shame what is happening to Clark. I didn't expect the right wing smear machine (George Will, Fox News, Boyer, Orin, ect) to take him out this early - but they apparently are afraid of him. I am sure Rush-bo will pile on when he comes back on Monday. Reminds me of what happened to McCain and Cleland - indicative of how neo-cons abuse our military and our military heroes.

5. Clark is making them sweat!
It is a shame what some Democrats are doing to Clark. I really believe this man will be a great president. He just has "it". Some people put so much early energy and hope into the Dean candidacy, that they feel that they have too much emotionally riding with their candidate to keep listening to the rest of the field. Dean has been great for the party, but Clark will be the one who brings this country together.

6. Shooting the messenger?
"If you want to know what you are going to hear in South Carolina, read Boyer's article in The New Yorker. Expect to see a concerted attempt to stack brass against Clark. Peter Boyer himself is not against Clark, but he does see that there is a crucial problem: namely as an old politics candidate, Clark is just a southern General, and he is vulnerable on both of these points. It is only as candidate of the new politics that he can make his case as being smart, because smart is something the television media is not good at conveying.

Since it is already evident, if it wasn't obvious from the start, that The veteran's vote is crucial to the Clark strategy in South Carolina, attacks against this base are crucial for the "Stop Clark" strategy that the Republicans are pursuing. The word in right wing circles for months has been that the way to attack Clark is to attack his record in the military, particularly in Kosovo and in his rise to SACEUR. The Republicans, once they pick a play, run it over and over again until they get traction, so this isn't going to go away, and releasing records isn't going to blunt the personal testimony of "war heroes" with an electorate that takes that very seriously.

8. He Trashed Gore
And the piece in the New Yorker was unbelievably poorly done.

At least if he's going to do a hatchet job he could do better than that.

9. Dupe thread.
Maybe it's not a dupe, though, because a much more even-handed discussion of that article occurred here:
