My daughter and the Future of America
My daughter was born December of 2001, a few short months after 9-11.
It has been an incredible journey these last to years to see her blossom into a little person with a kind heart and strong spirit.
Unfortunately, in these same 2 years, while my wife and I have been nurturing our daughter, Bush has been treating our democracy and us like a red-headed stepchild. If he's allowed to continue, I'm afraid this country will be forever broken, and we, along with our fellow citizens, unable to find our better selves because of the trauma that he has caused to this country.
My question is, in this next year, what can I do - and I really mean DO - to effect his removal. I want to devote my entire vacation next year to trying to marshall whatever forces I can to defeat Bush.
Anyone have suggestions?
When would be the best time, the most effective time, to take the 3 weeks to devote full time to this. Right before the election? Earlier?
Thank you do DU for inspiring me politically and for keeping me in a frame of mind where I can nurture my daughter - and the hope for a return to the America I love.

1. wow - your post is moving!
I am also jumping out of my skin at the thought that the US is changing in the wrong direction. This is a true crisis.

I am so heartened to learn of people like you, who will give their precious free time to fix this problem.

Bravo. I will watch your post to see what reactions you receive.

2. Once a Dem candidate is nominated,
join the team. Door knocking is especially effective. Talk to people, give them literature, and encourage them to vote. Offer rides to those who might need them (go to nursing homes). Getting out the Dem vote is the most important factor. Get people registered and motivated. Thank you so much for helping. No matter how things turn out, we wish all the best to your daughter and her future, and we will keep fighting for a kinder world.

3. What about Ingrid? The Norwegian version...
http://www.sv.no/hvem/english/dbaFile36657.html

Tomorrow Ingrid will be born.

What will her upbringing be like? Must Ingrid fight for the same possibilities as boys on her own age? How will her prospects in the working life be? And how will her first day in school turn out? How will her youth be? Will it be difficult if she becomes a mother herself? Would someone take care of her when she grows old?

SV sees that schools are decaying and that the health and social system is ailing. We also see how the pace in our personal and professional lives affects our health negatively. Furthermore we recognise the rising rates of crime and violence, and that there is increased disparity between the poor and the rich.

In the same time, we see a society with great opportunities. We have a highly educated population and vast amounts of natural resources. We must use these opportunities to improve today’s society for Ingrid.
==========================================================

Hell, that could be America if we all gave a shit.

4. Welcome to DU and congrats on parenthood
I agree that getting the numbers out to vote is extremely important. Any letters to the editor, call ins to talk radio, writing to raise awareness about black box voting, etc. are also things to do on a daily, weekly or monthly basis as your time allows.

Little people are wonderful aren't they?

5. Great post.
I also understand. I have a four year old son and a six year old son with a disability, and i wonder what kind of world the Asshole in Chief is remaking for my kids. This is the first Pres I've really really dispised. I'm looking forward to going out and hitting the streets and making calls to get out the vote for ABB next year. I've done political volunteer work before, but this time I wish I could leave the family for a few months to work 18 a day to get people to realize what a turd this pResident is.

Congrats on becoming a parent. Enjoy these years with her, and do what you can to make this a better world for her.

6. where do you live? I would suggest teaming with like-minded folks...
...in your area and visting your congress-person en masse.

Just imagine storming the halls of congress with 50-100 dissatisfied constituents? Be loud and agressive. Insist on straight answers.

As Frederick Douglass said "agitate. agitate. agitate."

Your post has made me think abou this.
