inmate and that $40K annual cost is upper end estimate...in most states it is $19/$25K
this is so weird i just finished watching "the life of david gale" exactly 10 minutes ago and came onto DU and simultaniously 2 threads on death penalty....spooky

all...other that the OPINION that death "must" be a punishment... that isnt a valid proof. We need scientific proof, NOT hearsay. and so Jesus forgives him and sends him to Heaven...no punishment. if the atheists are right, his nervous system stops and ..no punishment! but there is a strange association of politicians promising to kill prisoners in custody if elected..which smacks of a blood sacrifice to the voters if elected.

most all western nations have abolished the death penalty . . . we're one of the few that still executes its citizens, and with a certain relish that I find particularly disturbing . . . for many Americans, the preferred solution to many problems is simply "Kill the bastards" . . . sad, sad, sad . . .
