Stewart Udall - What an Amazing Man
I just watched an interview with Stewart Udall, Secretary of the Interior under Presidents Kennedy and Johnson, on KCTS. He did more to preserve our natural heritage than almost any other public official in history. He's lived and worked in the West, studied and wrote about the West, and worked to shield it from exploitation.

He said Republicans and Democrats used to live under a "big tent" when it came to the enviroment. Environmentalists weren't called "environmental wackos." Fifty years later, he says he's sickened by Washington, D.C., which has become a cesspool of money and corruption.

Udall is now 83 and is still representing Navajos who are victims of th emining industry. He struck me as very extraordinary man - eloquent in words and spirit.

1. His younger brother, Mo (Morris)
was a 20 year congressman from Arizona. He is my all-time political hero; he ran for president in 1976 and finished second to Carter in al the major primaries-so endeth his career.
