A possible semi-rosy outlook on 2004?
I live in upstate NY. You know, that big red blob in a sea of blue from the last election. For the longest time, I had to deal with Suburban and Explorer 4x4's with 3 foot flags hanging off their roof racks, dirty looks from people who spied my "Impeach Bush" bumper sticker, etc., etc. I was in the buckle of the northern republican belt. Half jokingly I used to say I was one of three registered Democrats on Fulton County. Letters to the editor spoke of patriotism and how dissenters of anything Bush should move to Canada, or France.

Three or four weeks ago I noticed something. There weren't 4 pro Bush letters to 1 against in the paper anymore. Bush/Cheney 2000 bumper stickers have been dissapearing quickly, The Doctor Is In: Dean 2004 have started to appear rather frequently. Clark is no longer just a candly bar, but something I hear people say they like at the checkout at Price Chopper. In the past two weeks, there hasn't been one, NOT ONE letter in defense of this administration, but many against. I have had two requests for infor on where I got my "I don't have to like Bush to love America" bumpersticker.

Is the tide really turning? I mean NY is always a blue state, but this area has been solid red since Reagan. If the tide is turning here, could it be turning elsewhere as well? Is there anyone in a red state, or a red area of a blue state that has noticed this? Or is it just me hoping with all my heart wearing rosy colored glasses?

3. Yeah Western PA
is a hotbed of Republicans and Conservatives but many were disappointed by Bush. Guns have played a major part in people switching to Dean or Clark.

Where in NY are you? I'm in Rochester right now and it's very progressive. Ton's of patriotic anti-bush and proDean/Clark stickers from day one.

Look at this map of political contributions. Democrats dominate in Fulton County. (Bluer = more dem, redder = more repub.)

http://www.fundrace.org/moneymap.php?cand=RepVDem&zoom=County

Also consider this. In the 2000, in Fulton Co.:

Bush: 11,434, 52.76%
Gore: 9,314, 42.98%
Nader: 668, 3.08%

Democrats may not be as out-numbered as you think.

Now that I've given you some good news, go campaign for a dem candidate. Here's a list of Dean Meetups in your area:
