DU: You've Done It! 1000 Donations!

Dear DUers,

You've done it! You achieved the goal of 1000 donations today at 6pm. On behalf of the Administrators of Democratic Underground, I want to express our gratitude.

On Wednesday we thought it couldn't be done - we weren't even sure whether we would beat our total from the previous fund drive. But by the end of the week the donations were rolling in, and today the goal was reached.

I want to say thank you to everyone who has donated to DU, past and present, and particularly those of you who donated during this record-breaking fund drive. You continue to prove that an independent website like DU can thrive and succeed based on the contributions of its members.

I also want to say how thrilled we are to be able to provide this service for everyone. It's been mentioned on a few occasions that as administrators, we mainly spend our time dealing with problems at DU, and we don't have time to take part in all the great stuff that goes on here. So we tend to get a skewed perspective of whether or not people are enjoying themselves, and to be honest, it can be quite detrimental to our morale. But this fund drive has simply blown our minds - it's been so great this week to see so many people pulling together and working so hard to provide community we can all enjoy.

Since we've reached the goal, in a few minutes I'll be taking down all the interrupt pages and fund drive reminders. HOWEVER: the fund drive is continuing - we have one more day to go! So if you haven't found time to donate yet, please don't let this stop you :)

On Monday afternoon we will tally all the donations, including the snail mail donations which we have recived so far, and we'll let you know how many donations we received.

Once again, I want to express our thanks. We have been totally blown away by your generosity.

Donate this time around. I am still a victim of The Bush Jobs Revolution. Having said that, I am in the process of drafting a business proposal and have a powerful friend in this, a very successful former Wall Street guy. I also have a VC firm that seriously wants a look at the thing, when I get it done.

Aren't these amazing historic times we're in? We're now witnessing, as well as struggling (many of us) to influence events that will ultimitely determine the course that world civilization will take in this coming century. Everything sovereign individuals value as true Democracy is on the line now.

I came upon DU a few months ago while following links through articles and related source material. Finding DU was like hitting a vital current of reality at last in the rising ocean of disinformation and targeted marketing that's overwhelmed our communications media.

I get almost all my news here now. It's great! :hippie:

So many of the DUers volunteer great analysis too -- sometimes amazingly insightful and well documented, sometimes full of terrific outrage and humor. Sometimes just plain dumb and fun.

Anyway, I'm just writing this to thank all of you I've had a chance to dialogue with. As we move into the coming critical election season and beyond, with so much historic work to do, I hope I can get to know people here and we can build bonds that will be both personally rich and politically potent.

(That's my socio-political fantasy anyway!) :crazy:

And thanks to you geniuses who made the Democratic Underground happen in the first place.
