for those who think we don't have to follow the Geneva convention and that anyone the government doesn't like can just be locked away forever without a trial

If that is not indicative of CNN's right-wing bent I don't know what is. Yes, that is offensive to me because it is misleading.

a majority of those who are serving in Guantanamo are Arab. On top of that, some of them may not even be criminals because we really don't know. For them to portray people who are Arab, or Punjabi, or Urdu in a manner like that is highly offensive. They are not even wearing their traditional garb in their cartoon.

7. If We Can Dish It Out... |

...we should be able to take it.
I like political cartoons because they can offend the hell outta Republicans. So we should accept it when the message goes the other way. Doesn't make the 'toon any less stupid, tho.

8. It's offensive if you believe in democracy |

and have a sliver of hope left for our 'justice' system.
It implies US Courts are not part of our LEGAL system which (in theory) protects the innocent and punishes the guilty.

Not stupid. Just really really really really really fucking dumb.
And... hearing cases is somehow wrong? It promotes terrorism? I thought there was crap like due process!
For fuck's sake, people, just because a SUSPECTED terrorist is tried doesn't mean he'll be let free! It means that if there's actual EVIDENCE of him being a terrorist, he'll be put in the can or worse!

... because whatever a person may have done, that person is still a human being and not some sort of tasmanian devil.
As to the rest of it, the U.S. is the nation that doesn't consider itself bound by the World Court (or am I not "getting" the cartoon?). And it's probably not a bad idea to show that these prisoners are held in cages about three feet square. When I have to send my dogs to be boarded for a weekend, their runs are three feet wide, seven feet high, and seven or eight feet long with a roof to keep the sun and/or rain off them and an enclosed "house" with a soft cushion inside to sleep on... and the lady who runs the kennel will bring them inside her house if the weather gets really bad.
Is a comparison of Bush and Hitler really so far off?

22. Not really offensive - just bad cartooning. |
|
The dialogue is way too muddled, there's no twist. Nothing clever... just a kind of literal illustration of a somewhat unfocussed statement.
I see bad cartoons on the left, too. This is just a poorly done cartoon.

24. Ok help me out here - I see this as Black humor |
|
What offends me is the accuracy of this cartoon thanks to the way our Supreme Court has been regressing lately.
I see this as a total slam on Bush and the SC acting as if they have any authority on internationals and having the audacity to label people terrorists in advance of any hearing (just like this cartoon does).
To me the cartoon isn't offensive- it's tragic; what's offensive is our Supreme Court.
