The Green Mountain State of Vermont....
although considered "tiny" and sometimes "insignificant" for its contributions to the rest of this great nation, is today in mourning. We have lost yet, another native son, to this horrible and unjustifiable war that PNAC and the BFEE have decided to be in our best interests.

For me, it has now become very "up close and personal"...the latest Vermont casualty was Pierre Piche.
He was only 28, and 16 of his fellow soldiers died Saturday when their Black Hawk helicopters crashed, or were shot down in Iraq.

Pierre, a first lieutenant with the Army's 101st Airborne Division, is the fifth soldier from Vermont to die in the war. He was deployed to Iraq a month before the war began.

HE WAS ALSO MY GODSON !! I was supposed to protect him and keep him safe...the Commander-in-Thief took this out of my hands, and I will forever consider him responsible.

Pierre only wanted to get his MA degree and become a teacher, and maybe he would have taught my 5yr old grandaughter, what a waste...what a waste. I am so sad, I am so angry...what will I tell my grandaughter when she asks, "Papa...why couldn't you protect Pierre ??

Welcome to the New American Century.........

4. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family for your
loss, words cannot describe how I feel right now about how bush* has destroyed so many lives. I believe that what you put out into this world will come back to you tenfold, and he will be punished for the evil he has done.

7. ronin...I am so sorry for your loss.
I feel as you do, too. We lost one of our hometown boys to this war too. His name was Jeremy DiGiovanni and he was in one of the black hawks that crashed this past weekend, too.

He was 21 and an only son.

I extend my deepest sorrow to you--I can't imagine how you feel right now.

I posted about the way the war has affected my hometown and even my classroom today.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=425369&mesg_id=425369

:loveya: and a million hugs to you. It is getting more and more difficult to deal with these losses--they are no longer abstract--they are very real to the people whose lives are being destroyed by this war.

Again, hugs to you. I will say a prayer for Pierre.

8. I'm sorry this madness has hit so close to home and that you have
lost someone dear to you.

I wonder if any military families would be willing to suggest contributions to a Democratic opponent to Bush* in lieu of flowers?

I've seen a couple of civilian obit announcements to that effect. It would send a strong message and perhaps stop more of this senseless killing.

14. Thank God for your grandson Pierre...
He was far too good to be sent to fight for those idiots, and, to his credit, he just wanted to serve his country. He did the noble thing, while they merely proved their cowardice. Thank God also for people like you, and for others he knew and loved, who did not want him to be sent into something like this.

The good news is that Pierre will always be remembered as a great guy who did good things--and did the RIGHT things--for his family, his friends, and his country. Please take comfort in that as you and your family hang in there during this hard, and very sad, time. I'll say one for him tonight, and for you all in the days ahead. God bless you--know that we are all there for you, and praying for you!

B-)

22. thank you so much...
for your kind words...Pierre was not my grandson, but he was my God Son, and I take that responsibility very seriously. He was the son of my very best friend, and he is devastated. My duties as a Godfather was to do everything I could to make his life safe and keep him from harm. I failed him...and I failed my best friend and I only hope that somehow I can make it up to both of them. I will do everything in my power to prevent others from ever experiencing this pain and even though I have been drinking all day...it still hurts!

Bless you for your kindness.

17. There are no words....
nothing can be said to diminish the pain

or the anger.

I am so sorry for your loss and join you in seething with anger at these homicidal maniacs.

The only comfort is in knowing the truth. Your Godson died due to the crimes of evil human beings. As such he died a death which will leave his soul blessed for eternity.

May you have some peace knowing that his soul is blessed. And the souls of the perpetrators are cursed by the Creator.

20. Every night on The News Hour on PBS they put up the recent
casualties in Iraq in silence. All are young, most in their early twenties. It makes me sorrowful for the waste of the lives that didn't need to be except for the creepy, wicked people who allowed this to happen. My sympathy for your loss.

24. Does DU support members in need ?
Just read the above posts...I am a "low" poster here but I am also here 8-10 hrs every day, and try to read every post in every forum.
The information I have received is invaluable and for the nost part, has prevented me from moving back to Canada.

I needed support tonight and because of your posts, I really feel better and more determined to stay and fight this evil regime in any way I can.

Thanks DU....without you, this world would seem insane!

Edited on Tue Nov-18-03 10:56 PM by KoKo01
and I didn't want Pierre or the others to go over there...I knew being from the Viet Nam Generation.

I am so sad for you....It's awful...I don't know what else to say..but my heart goes out to you and my prayers are with you, and Pierre will be remembered....as all martyrs are.....in the hearts of those who "had to go" and thought they were doing what was best for their country.

Bless you......and hope being here gives you support, in this awful time.
On Edit: There was nothing you could have done to keep him safe...and I don't think he lost his life for nothing..it will be for a bigger reason than we know...and I will pray for you and him....I didn't mean to sound selfish in my post to you about "protests." My heart is too sad with this loss and the others....that I didn't want to have to go.
Peace to you, and prayers,
koko

26. I am so sorry, what a tragedy!
5{ondolences to you and to all who knew and loved Pierre. This war is just a horrible, horrible waste of our young men and women. Bush and his PNACers have so much blood on their hands. We must do anything possible to get them the hell out of our government.

As Howard Dean says, I want my country back!!!

If only we could get all our men and women back too!

As a retired military man, I would like to express my deepest regrets. My heart and the hearts of my family here in Florida go out to you and the family of this young man. What another tragic loss of our greatest asset here in America, our young men and women in uniform.

Chris and Family from Navarre, Florida....

Chris, from Florida, the Battle Ground State in 2004.

Hopefully, someday, years into the future, you'll be able to tell her it was because 'the people didn't used to control their government the way they do today'.

Our state has lost quite a few young men senselessly. I'm sure PIerre was a wonderful and talented man and will be missed for not only all he was, but for all he could have been. Hang in there. Loss is so hard, but those we lose would want us to remember them with a smile and to carry on. Do your best to do the boy proud and be there for his family...they will need all the support they can get. He'd want you to help take care of them I'm sure.

There is so much we need to do, and until we can do it, young people die for the sake of loving our country.

Thank you for your sacrifice.
