HUGE ENDORSEMENT by Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee
This endorsement is huge to me since I'm from Texas----this is really big news :-)

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee Endorses Dean

HOUSTON--Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee tonight endorsed Governor Howard Dean for president, citing his record on health care and civil rights.

"Howard Dean has an exemplary record of taking care of his constituents. 99% of Vermont's children are eligible for health care coverage through his program, and 97% of children were fully immunized by the time they start kindergarten. This is a man who can deliver on his word, and we are in need of these kinds of reforms now in our country," the congresswoman said.

"Sheila is an impressive representative and faithful servant for the people of the 18th district," Governor Dean said. "She has a strong record of leadership in the House and I am proud that she has joined our campaign to take our country back. Her vision and wisdom will be a welcome addition to our campaign team."

Jackson-Lee has represented Texas's 18th District, which comprises much of Houston, since she was first elected in 1994.

Jackson-Lee joins Reps. Neil Abercrombie, Bob Filner, Raúl Grijalva, Maurice Hinchey, Zoe Lofgren, Jim McDermott, Jerrold Nadler, Major Owens, Frank Pallone, Tim Ryan, and David Wu, in addition to Vermont Senator Patrick J. Leahy, who have already endorsed Governor Dean.

3. there are more congressional endorsements than those cited
the campaign makes strategic decisions as to when to make endorsements official.

8. I love the CBC member endorsements the best
Edited on Tue Nov-18-03 09:33 PM by party_line
Rep Cummings, CBC chair today, now Jackson Lee.

*Every time* I want the Dems to stand together for something, who walks out, en masse, but the CBC and NOT the Vichy Dems.

18. I'll always be proud of them when the Stolen Election of 2000..
came to the House of Reps, they begged their fellow Dem colleagues to join them in refusing to condone the election, and they were left flat.

They are the bravest members in Congres, IMHO.

21. Health care for kids is great
"Howard Dean has an exemplary record of taking care of his constituents. 99% of Vermont's children are eligible for health care coverage through his program, and 97% of children were fully immunized by the time they start kindergarten.

Since it's affordable and gives great benefit for the buck. The challenge is to extend this kind of coverage to adults.

31. We had 1,800 to 2,000 people show up for Dean in Houston
which is amazing since Houston's a Republican stronghold, and the home of Tom Delay.

33. Huge?
For me. Monumental. I've said it before here, SJL is America's greatest modern politician.(By this I mean that you'll find no one else smarter, no one else more principled, and no else more philosophically honest in D.C.) Although I support Dean, I'm not one to support someone without maintaining a keen sense of cynicism(I hope). An endorsement by SJL goes a long ways towards removing some of my last reservations. I would choose her over Dean for President. This makes my day.
