Converting Repukes you meet is as easy as posing as a disgruntled Repuke!
I have done this for about a year now. It is easy, and amazingly effective. The good old fashioned Word of Mouth is probably one of the deadliest weapons we have to use against BushCo.

First off, never approach one of these folks as a rival, (i.e. ENEMY a.k.a. Democrat, liberal, liberal-Democrat) for, as we all know, if you do, EVERYTHING that comes out of your mouth from that moment forward will be judged by the respective Repuke to be completely invalidated, being that it is tainted by slimey liberal bias! Instead, introduce yourself as a fellow Repuke. I do this by claiming that I come from a Repuke family. I then proceed to claim to have proudly voted for the likes of Ray-Gun, Bush the Elder, Bob Dole, Smirky, and, most recently, (because I live in California) for the amazing budget balancing Gropinator! (Warning: this method DOES require a very strong stomach!) By doing this, you will have created INSTANT and COMPLETE credibility with your reform subject!

I then launch into a nasty tirade against BushCo, claiming that this bunch of crooks are NOT true small government conservatives, like myself (barf, barf) - but are NEOCONS, hooked on huge spending, and even bigger government than most Democrats! I then point out how the Chimp has managed to turn the biggest deficit in history, into the biggest debt! I mention how outrageous it is for Bush to use huge sums of OUR tax dollars - 87 billion - to build schools and hospitals for the Iraqis, while Americans' hospitals and schools are allowed to become 2nd rate! Time and time again, I mention the Bush crimes and injustices in MONETARY terms (avoiding altogether, any discussions of the moral injustice of murdering large numbers of innocent people - thus preventing the conversion process from morphing into a debate with an irrational "patriotic" Rethuglican). I also mention Cheney's sleezy association with Halliburton, and Rumsfeld's connection to defense contractors. I have found that most Repukes do not like Ashcroft's limiting our freedoms, nor ChimpCo's desire for a return of The Draft (particularly one devoid of rich white kid deferments).

Before I go any further, let me emphasize how important it is to do as much Clinton bashing as possible (sickening for me, as I am a HUGE Big Dog fan) - Hillary included of course - this you will find will establish your credibility with your respective Repuke subject perhaps quicker than anything else! You also find this Clinton bashing quite useful when you move to suggest that the ONLY practical way to get rid of ChimpCo is to vote for one of the candidates (don't dare mention that they are Dems) - who, thank goodness, are NOTHING like that sleezy, lying, no good, slick Willie, Bill Clinton!! They seem to instinctively like THE GENERAL (Clark - military), and when mentioning Dean, lead-off with the fact that he is a DOCTOR - and really quite conservative!

What you will find is that the majority of even this group - are looking for an excuse to dump Chimpy (who everyone know sucks big-time) - they just don't want to hear it from one of us (i.e. THE ENEMY!!) They can talk until they are blue in the face about the enemy being Al-Qaeda - but I think we all understand that the REAL enemy to Repukes is US LIBERAL DEMOCRATS!! But, I promise you, when it comes from one of their disgruntley own - they are EASY to talk into dumping the chump chimp! This is a movement that really grows exponentially! Imagine if all DUers made it a goal to convert a certain number of Repukes that they encounter! We have 33,000 registered members, and what - 10 times that or more as far as those who visit?

So everyone here, between now and November 2004 - let's all pledge to make an effort to convert a number of Repukes. We could actually set both personal and group goals. C'mon people, think of the stakes here. Merely the survival of all of mankind! So put on that tacky red, white and blue outfit, clip on a bow tie - whatever it takes to get you undercover (even bonafide Dead-heads can tuck their long hair under a baseball cap). In this crucial endeavor, we simply MUST succeed!!

2. It's sleazy, dishonest behavior
IOW, the only things the republicans will understand.

Great post! Thanks.

(BTW, I rarely run into anyone who supports Bush, whether or not I pretend to like him. It is very rare indeed, which makes me wonder where the pollsters keep coming up with the 50%)

3. oddly enough I think this is why Clark is our best candidate
because he's a disgruntled GOP who's come over to our side.

He could have many people follow him over.

There's no better way to point out how wrong somebody is than to be an ex.

9. I believe you are correct.
Although I don't want the thread to devolve into a Clark vs. Dean war!

5. I won't be dishonest
Just being right and not really feeling the need to argue usually is enough for me to convert someone--when you don't compete, you have no competitors. It's a Tao thing. :)

10. Right-Wingers Try The Same Thing Here At DU
and tear down Democrats all the time. Sometimes they are detected as Disruptors immediately, but some manage to stay around for the long-term.

13. I've done this too!!!
I think it's a good way to get repugs to stay home on election day. We can talk about the record deficits and record budgets. "See, Bush is no conservative!"

Kudos to you. :toast:

18. Honestly, I Can't Lie. I Have No Problem Telling People I Was Born
and raised repuke. DOMA is what made me decide to switch sides. Repukes live to discriminate, to feel they are superior to others. I can't be a part of that. They are hateful people who will stop at nothing to keep the rich and priveledged on top and everyone else can eat sh*t. No, I don't have to "pretend".. I left the repuke party in '96 and have not looked back.

God Bless Those True American Patriots Who Were Brave Enough To Vote Nay On the UNCONSTITUTIONAL DOMA:

22. I believe most republicans are not Neo-Cons
And I think this could be their undoing. We need an add campaign that touts old Repubs talking about values (fiscal conservative, strong defence but no foriegn adventurism, fair taxes, small bussiness over corperations) then when all the Repubs are feeling all warm and cozy with visions of baseball, hot dogs, and Chevrolet running through their heads hit them with the facts about the new Boogey Man, the "Radical Right". End it with something like "George Bush is too Radical to be our type of conservative"
