Clark just called Bushco "Chickenhawks" at Dartmouth |
|
Not surprisingly an applause line that seemed to take him by surprise.
Listing on local public radio.
Hey, is "chickenhawk" a label that's in use out there these days? I know Duers like to joke about it. I'm wondering whimsically if Gen. Clark ever takes a pulse here at DU...

4. Term has roots in the Military |
|
Military Brass use it sometimes to describe hawkish civilials who push for and oversee aggressive military policies but have no war experience of their own to sober their sentiments.

Kick ass General Clark. jokerman2004, I can't claim to be an expert in this area, but I think "chickenhawk" is a timeless phrase. And I feel confident it'll resonate as long as the GOP has power. Esp when they send citizens to die for their oil grab.
But it'd be hard for any other candidate to use it so effectively. A four star general, seriously injured in battle...
(Actually, Kerry in an injured Vietnam vet, right?)

Clark has bragging rights. He can use that term.
Maybe Kerry doesn't use it because he's served as soldier in time of war but didn't make a career among the hawks as Clark did.

"Maybe Kerry doesn't use it because he's served as soldier in time of war but didn't make a career among the hawks as Clark did."
True, he's not a career soldier. Still, seems like he earned the right.
Off topic, but I've always been a tad amazed that Kerry came from a privileged background as did so many chickenhawks, but didn't use the connections to get a national guard slot. I'm sure he could have.

7. It's also slang for pedophile |

But I love it that a serious candidate is dishing it.

14. I figure that if bush had to debate Clark... |
|
bush would have a double set of rubber undies on. You know he's going to pee and crap himself several times. Not just on military matters, but can you imagine the intellectual battle? Kind of one sided I'd say.
After the debate was over, you could find bush by following the slime trai off the stage.
