I'm wondering if Dems in other states are getting emails from the DNC about why we should vote against Howard Dean in the primaries?

In this one they quote from "Who can win Ohio" by meyersonh@washpost.com and "explain" why Clark or Gephardt are preferable.

There is no way the DNC (or even a state party) should be doing this. They are supposed to remain neutral until a nominee is chosen.

Is anyone else getting such email? (I wouldn't know since I cancelled my email subscription to the DNC stuff a loonnnnnng time ago.)

1. Honestly...
I haven't seen any proof that this was sent by the DNC. It is a WaPo article, not a DNC email. It is vulgar if they did it, but I would like to know more.

2. why do you believe this?
If it's so shocking to you, why do you assume it's true, why aren't you skeptical?

3. skeptical? hardly
I'm coming to think that this has ALWAYS been the way, and probably always will be

Still, anybody in the national party advocating a particular candidate is pretty bogus.

4. Please present proof
Like I said, it is vulgar if this is true, but we haven't seen any proof. The news article isn'e even linked so it looks like an email. I am not breaking your balls, I just am initially skeptical.

7. I have a copy of the email
if you read the other thread you will learn that it was sent by the local democratic organization ohiodems.org. The original Dean blog poster was just confused about where it came from, but the fact remains they are using democratic funds to promote certain candidates over another. The email sent was simply a copy of the washingtonpost article... which makes the suggestions of who is Better.

5. so you believe it because it reinforces your prejudices
You always believe anonymous blog entries that agree with your preconceptions? Not a good idea, imo.

6. preconceptions?
Dems act just like Repukes do when it comes to campaigns. The idea of this doesn't surprise me at all.

8. So someone with a record of making hysterical, the sky is
falling down on the precious head of Howie Dean posts makes another one, and I'm expected to believe this bullshit, too? Just like the Hillary is running to spoil things for Howie, Clark is running to spoil things for Howie, the Democrats aren't worried because they think Dean is an electoral disaster, they're worried because they think he can win stuff that came from this same person. This is more Deanite hysteria. It's Dean against the world! All eyez on Dean!, to paraphrase Tupac Shakur.

The Dean is my shepherd, I shall not want.
He maketh me donate money over the internet.
He shouteth empty slogans in my abused ears.
He leadeth me down to the still waters of massive defeat,
for his ego's sake.

He restoreth my power:
The power of helpless rage when the George Bush receiveth 4 more years, and the Republicans a super-majority in the Senate.

Yea, though I walk in the shadow of a ruined country,
I shall fear no evil: for Dean art with me.
His anger and his wrath and his mighty forearms comfort me.

He prepareth a table for me in the presence of his enemies,
and asks that I donate more money to him.
He assaults my ears with empty rhetoric; my mind
is emptied of reason.

Surely rage and regret shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the House of the Bush for four more years.

9. So it's okay with you
if your state democratic organization sends out an email to its members attaching an article that claims Clark cannot *win the election*?

This one just happens to mention Clark and Gephardt (but for sure not "Dean") as this particular author's picks for OHIO and therefore the entire nation. Never mind that Kucinich is way ahead in Ohio polls.

But it would be okay with you for a democratic organization to do this to YOUR candidate?

If there is one thing this res has done for our country, it is fine tune our sniff-o-meters. People don't like being played for fools.

10. I haven't seen this letter. And the original
hysterical claim was that it came from 'The DNC.' Of course, that's been proven 'false' to be polite, but no apology or correction is forthcoming, of course, as would happen if someone with actual character had made this mistake.

You keep saying you have this letter, where is it? I genuinely don't mean to sound vicious, but I wouldn't trust a lot of those Kool-aid swillers if they told me the sky was blue, the earth was round, or James Brown has soul. I want evidence.

11. Not okay
Nope, its not okay and if they sent out an email claiming Dean was better than Clark you can be sure we would scream like stuck pigs.

Absolutely.

On the other hand, the world being the way it is, we would probably try to find out just who actually sent out the email. One of my favority cartoons regarding the internet is the one where two dogs are talking, and one says, "the best thing is, on the net no one can tell that you're a dog."

I have an email list for a not-profit I was chairman of in NYC. I could easily go to a computer cafe and send out an email to everyone on that list claiming to be George Bush.

Even if the email came from the official state account there is no way of knowing for sure who actually sent it.

The point is, before you jump out the window, make sure the guy that yelled "fire" is telling the truth. It's a long way down otherwise.

12. I agree....If this is accurate
it is totally unacceptable. Its a primary, for God's sake.. As the official voice of the state party they should show no preference.

15. Chances are just as good it's not true, and it's designed to HELP Dean.
It plays conveniently into the persona Dean's trying to create of him being a rebel hated by the DNC.

21. that's true
Still, I hope the national party isn't sending out info where they're endorsing one candidate over another.

Is it true in this case? We don't know, but it's certainly worth asking a few questions.

16. the only thing that we are not being reminded of is
Edited on Thu Nov-20-03 02:02 AM by Frenchie4Clark
That there are four Democratic Senate seats that we may lose if we put the wrong candidate up against George Bush.
These four seats are all located in the South.

Zell Miller - Georgia
John Edwards - N.Carolina
John Hollings - S. Carolina
Bob Graham - Florida
There is a rumor that John Breaux may also retire. Since the LA Govenor's race has now been won by a Democrat, he has mentioned that he will decide within the next couple of months. So in adding that Southern Senate seat, we come up to five:
John Breaux - Louisiana

Currently we have 48 Democrats in the senate, and 1 Independent.

General Wes Clark is the only candidate, that has the military and Foreign policy experience needed to handle the wars that we are currently involved in, and is also a southerner.

If we lose any or all of these Senate seats, we can kiss what's left of our 2 party system goodbye for a long, long time. President Bush will be able to do whatever he likes, and we won't be able to do a doggone thing about it.

Many Dean supporters make the arguments that the general election can be won without the South. Yea, OK, you bet!

If Democrats can't see the problem with that logic, then prepare for massive exodus to Canada and Mexico the day after the election.

These are the cold hard facts. Period - even an exclamation point!

19. I'd like to see proof of this
but firmly disagree with any part of the party backing any one candidate. I sit on the board of my local Dem party and would never consider for a moment accessing party info for Dean and make it clear to all I am at Dean functions as an individual as our board supports all until the nomination is settled and then, whoever that is, we will support them.

I do however recruit new members to the party at Dean functions. :-)
