PETA does it again..
Once again, PETA has managed to make themselves look foolish

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,103512,00.html

(I know it is from Fox, but the story is an AP story)

I guess that PETA is planning on running an ad criticizing American Idol start Clay Aiken for a comment he made about cats.

"There's nothing worse to me than a house cat. When I was about sixteen, I had a kitten and ran over it. Seeing that cat die, I actually think that its spirit has haunted me. I wasn't afraid of cats before. But now they scare me to death," Aiken told Rolling Stone.

He doesn't like cats, so PETA is going to waste $$$ attacking him?

Who else thinks that PETA is becoming a joke?

1. PETA is absurd
They need a change of leadership all they do is attack celbrities and dress up in ridiculous costumes...they aren't legit anymore...there is a need to fight against real animal cruelty but this ain't the way to do it...

44. The worst part is
their absurdity is now more visible than their nobility.
They diminish their own good work when it is overshadowed by the irrationality of the inconsequential things that they address.

If you're going to dis PETA, couldn't you find another source. Frankly, seeing the fox url and knowing some DU'r actually spends time on that site disturbs me more than the cat story.

46. For Pete's sake...
if you see the words "fox news" in a post and you are so offended by them, why subject yourself to the torture of actually reading anything further? Hit the back button so those of us who actually paid attention to what was said in the post can discuss the topic. He noted that the Fox link was derived from an AP wire story. I first read it yesterday on the NYT AP wire and saw the ad itself on CNN while eating lunch. It's very clear that this wasn't something drummed up out of context by Fox News (which, by the way, I don't watch or visit on the Web. My opinion of that outfit is pretty much the same as yours).

Add this to the MOUNTAIN of stupid things they've done in the last year. I'm personally fond of when they sent a letter to Roy (From Sigfried and Roy), while he was still in critical condition!

10. I love PETA.
The truth hurts. Why so many here waste so much time bashing PETA is beyond me. If you base your opinion of PETA upon a Faux News article and bring it to this forum and then say they are hurting "OUR" cause, well then you are suspect. To me anyway.

PETA just points out the unabashed mistreatment of animals in our society. If you don't like that, hey, sorry. If you attack PETA because you think they are hurting "our" cause based upon what you read in Faux, then perhaps you should research the group a little more and get another perspective.

Who was it who said "You can judge a nation by how it treats its animals"?

Well I think you can judge a poster by how he treats PETA, cause it is always interesting to see how a person acts when he comes face to face with his principles.

12. Gandhi said that
And I am at odds with PETA nearly every day.
I support use of animal testing for scientific purposes only; cosmetic use or anything of the sort should be banned.
But PETA has pulled some stupid stunts, and this is one of them. Clay Aiken, whom I have no love of, said nothing deserving of PETA's wraith. He admitted his wrong and feels bad about it- it's not like he said "I killed cats when I was a kid, and I think everyone should do that!" He feels bad...I don't see why PETA is on his case

Like the dude said it was Ghandi, but I'm pretty sure the quote actually went more like, "You can judge a nation by how it treats its minorities." Not animals.

18. I base my opinion of PETA on the fact that they try to convert everyone.
If you could just instead look at the type of behaviour these idiots have towards good citizens who choose to eat meat, and not just look at the notion of eating meat, and see the actual crappy behaviour they exhibit, then maybe you'd see why I hate the sons of bitches.

Oh, and also their so called "facts and figures and evidence" like beer being better than milk i.e., is bull-craaaayyyyyyaaaaap.

30. Wait a minute there...
...I like to think I take animal rights pretty seriously. I'm vegetarian, and don't approve of needless killing. I educate others to what extent I can.

Some of PETA's positions (such as spay/neuter) do make sense. However a lot of what they say is sensationalist and deliberately outrageous publicity stunt stuff. *That*, yes, *does* hurt the cause of animal rights.

I guess it doesn't matter that AP/Fox left out the beginning of the quote which reads "I think cats are Satan." If you've seen the ad it simply reads "Get neutered. It didn't hurt Clay Aiken." It's something Triumph would say. It's just silly, not an "attack."

Even if he was- why does that deserve PETA's anger? It just seems ridiculous to me...

They are seeking rights for animals that we don't even afford humans.

I say let's figure out human rights first. Then we can move down the evolutionary scale with some confidence.

Killing cats horrifies me. I don't know who Clay Aiken is, but if he talks lightly about killing cats, I'm glad that somebody is criticizing him.

41. Possum Pie, yummy.
I am not against eating beef or any meat for that matter. I just get a kick out of defending PETA from the onslaught. I really believe that they are way ahead of their time with this whole animal cruelty thing and they just want to get some points across. They are not the bad guys, as much as some here would make you think.

As for the t-bone, that notch is where the spinal column passes, and if there is any amount of mad cow lurking, it is more likely to be around that area.

but PETA does go to extremes. There are many of their views that I do not agree with. One, for example, is the banning of wearing silk because the silkworms are being exploited. Give me a break, it's a bug and I hate bugs!
