Edited on Thu Nov-20-03 10:43 AM by La_Serpiente
Things might happen.

The guy is reporting something different than what the TV is showing.

4. protest and police lines shifting positions
some scuffles between police and protestors...one protestor detained and on the ground

Lots of cameras on the scene...they must not have known that MJ would happen and they haven't redeployed yet

6. The protestors and police
bumped up to each other. The protestors put on gas masks. They also tried to bring down a fence with grappling hooks until the cops started throwing gas. But the guy is reporting something differen than on the TV.

13. Exactly.........this is just a trial run to teach us protesters
to not protest...... squelching of freedom of assembly and free speech.

The way the WH has tried to mess with the UK protesters (shooting to kill with immunity) is just a real strong message to us all: Zero tolerance for any dissent.

I hate this country these days.

11. This guy is such a media whore
Saying that the cameras make it look like there's far far more protesters than there really are. RRRRRRRRGH.

The cops just dragged someone out of line and beat on him.

15. Homeland Security
Just finished reading this snippet from The Nation (Dec. 1): "Tucked away in Bush's $87 billion spending bill for Iraq is an $8.5 million item for security operations against the Free Trade Area of the Americas protests in Miami."

Dosen't that make you feel safer?

16. What I see are lines of police
in Darth Vader outfits standing three deep, in numbers nearly equal to the protesters.

I was half a block away from where the Portland cops gassed babies and grandmothers in August 2002, and this looks even more threatening.

Yet the CNN commentators are saying things like, "Well, there wouldn't be a protest if it weren't for the TV cameras."

They conveniently don't mention that, for example, the anti-Iraq invasion demonstrations were routinely ignored in recent years until they became too big to ignore.

19. guy on msnbc just said something interesting
I have heard people complaining that the police in Miami have come out in favor of the FTAA, saying its a good thing. The person on MSNBC just mentioned that the city of Miami wants to be the headquarters of the FTAA, no wonder they want it so bad could mean a lot of money for them.
