1. I just got done
emailing CNN - I am pissed off. There is so much going on in the world today, and all we get to see on CNN is the ass-end of an airplane sticking out of a hangar. JEEZ, no wonder so many people don't bother to vote. They're being trained to think that the most important story of the day is the destruction of a 'star.' They don't even waste any time talking about the victim in all of that mess!

:argh:

3. How much have they devoted to the bombings in Turkey and Iraq
today? How much to the protest against Bush? How much to the AARP scandal?

5. If you get BBC or any Canadian cable news, turn them on.
I have Newsworld International that is covering the bombing in Turkey and Bush's visit and the protests in England. They have mentioned Jackson, but not much.

8. Newsworld International has been great!!!
Good suggestion, Cleita. At least they're covering the news on this very, very big news day. I'm looking forward to BBC News at 6:00, and it'll also be interesting to see how the network nightly news handles the Jackson "story."

7. This is the exact reason why Keith Olbermann insisted on the "Countdown"..
... format before agreeing to host his own MSNBC news program again. He refused to allow stories like this irrelevent Michael Jackson crap to dominate a full hour of news coverage. The format of his "Countdown" show ensures that at least five different, major stories will receive in-depth treatment.

Sigh... I'm just sick about this. And sick of it, too!! I've been home from work for two hours, and still haven't seen one piece of film from the London protests, or bombings in Istanbul.

I miss my country. :-(

9. Last night all 5 countdown segments were about Jackson
Different facets of his "situation" and life. I was pretty surprised.

the whole freaking show was about Jacko.

Really let me down with that one.

Write to him here:

16. My letter to Keith Olbermann
I've written a few times to Keith, and what's really cool is that he personally responds every now and again. Thanks for the suggestion, maggr!!

Subject: Keith, you're letting us down.

When you first returned to MSNBC, your fans, and newswatchers everywhere, were ecstatic at the new format: A "countdown" of stories, at least five different, major stories per night. The format ensured that we wouldn't have to endure an entire hour spent covering one story... remember, like back in the Monica Lewinsky days?

I was shocked that last night's "Countdown" chose to cover various "aspects" of the Michael Jackson "story" in all five segments. Since the cable news networks have gone "All-Jacko-All-The-Time" today, I expect "Countdown" will deliver more of the same tonight.

Mr. Olbermann, it's been quite a news day. 27 people were murdered in a terrorist attack against British interests in Istanbul, Turkey. Over 100,000 Londoners took to the streets to protest the state visit of George W. Bush. In our own country, thousands of protestors are in Miami, scuffling with police during their protests against the FTAA talks. The American Association for Retired People (AARP) has apparently sold its soul to corporate interests in supporting the Senate Medicare Bill, and their many, many members are none too pleased about it. And, by the way, another soldier has been killed in Iraq.

Please rescue us from the frivolous, wall-to-wall coverage of Michael Jackson. On this important news day, I, and your other faithful viewers, look forward to your even-handed coverage of the day's events.

Please don't let us down. The only place to watch the real news today has been Newsworld International and the BBC. I'm saddened that my own country's newscasters, two years after the horrific events of 9/11 that touched you so personally, have returned to "business as usual," covering sensational stories that are of no relevance or significance to, frankly, anyone.

Thank you very much for listening.

20. Thanks, OKNancy.
We really need to inundate the networks with letters, phone calls and emails. Wolf Blitzer seemed to elude to such emails a few moments ago, when he said "We are NOT ignoring the other important news of the day." He looked a little angry....

11. Unfortunately, so are the protests.
So are the bombings in Turkey, the AARP flap, the energy bill, the troop numbers, the trade war...etc.

18. Did CNN get some letters? Wolf Blitzer just said, emphatically:
"We are NOT neglecting the other important news of the day. More on that coming up."

Hmmmm.... right after you show that inside-story about the Neverland Ranch you just spent a full minute plugging, huh, Wolfie? He looked a little irked.

Good job, letter writers!!!
