Phil Spector/Michael Jackson/the Beatles |
|
Okay, is it just me or is it more than a bit odd that right when the non-Phil Spector version of "Let It Be" comes out, Michael Jackson, who owns rights to the Beatles' catalogue, are charged at the same time? I don't think it means Phil Spector or Michael Jackson are innocent (or guily; I just don't know) but the timing is a little peculiar to say the least. On the radio, they were just talking about Phil Spector being charged with murder, then they go to the new Beatles' record (I presume Michael Jackson does not own the rights to those version of the songs), then they talk about Michael Jackson being arrested.
In other words, should both Phil Spector and Michael Jackson be convicted, someone else stands to make a lot of money from the Beatles' recordings.

spector & jackson would continue to earn royalties while in prison.
some states have 'son of sam' laws that prevent felons from profitting from books, movies, etc. stemming from their crime.
however, no state prevents felons from earning money having nothing to do with the crime.

2. Sorry, I meant that Jackson might have to sell his rights to the songs |
|
to pay the legal bills. And that the new CD might benefit from publicity saying that it wasn't associated with Phil Spector (though I hear it's pretty bad).
I can't actually sort out or make any connection. I just find it all strange, hearing the stories about them all in a row on the radio!

And Michael Jordan and Michael Jackson are both known as MJ.....
I can see why this is the number one story.

Jacko should have never bought those songs, they weren't his. Now the Beatle boys are getting their revenge. McCartney runs half of Europe! When McCartney throws a party, Blair and Putin beg to come!

Jackson owns half of the publishing rights to nearly all Beatles' songs, including the 'old' and 'new' version of Let It Be (Sony now owns the other half). http://www.snopes.com/music/artists/jackson.htm

7. Ha! Is Sony connected to Phil Spector |
|
Or Rupert Murdoch, or Time Warner, or AOL?
They can control the news and get all the Beatles' money at the same time.
