Describe the worst chickenhawk you have ever met |
|
I'd like to hear from those of you who have had encounters with real live chickenhawks in your lives. Not people we've seen on TV, but real live people you know or have met in real life, in person.
I used to know someone in high school from a fairly well-to-do family who favored bombing the hell out of any country who rubbed him the wrong way. Of course, when all of us high school seniors received phone calls from military recruiters he seemed bewildered at the notion of enlisting. I remember talking to him with a group of my friends and he made jokes about the very concept of enlisting, even though he was fond of bashing Bill Clinton for being a "draft-dodger". After the movie "A Few Good Men" came out in 1992, he defended the "Code Red" performed on the Marine, and I can also remember him saying that it was good policy to give college defermits to kids during the Vietnam War draft era.

at a coffe shop in the town i live, some serior gentlemen gather to discuss politics and sports. one of these guys wishes that all anti-war protestors be machine gunned down in the streets. he's a true coward because he wants someone else to do the killing for him. by the way he's a born again christian. surprise!

10. religion is often a cover for less than pious behavior |
|
it seems in this case.
I like to quote ex-Dallas Cowboy defensive back Dextor Clinksdale (who really was/is a Christian)who said about the city of Dallas in the heyday of the go-go 1980s:
"Dallas is a place where the Jim Bakkers and the Swaggerts can get away with many things in the name of religion...there are people who religiously go to church, religiously give to charities, and are religiously deceitful in their public and private lives."

4. I saw Saxby Chambliss... |
|
in the main terminal at Washington (NEVER Reagan) National Airport as our family was flying back from vacation last summer. I told him to his face that he wasn't fit to empty Max Cleland's colostomy bag. My wife almost fainted and my two sons (6 and 9) just stared (they had never really seen Daddy mad before). Chambliss never said a word. Gutless.

Then I give them directions to downtown Boston where the recruiting offices are.

14. Dude at our church....... |
|
is a 5ft 110lb passive aggressive punk who happens to be and "elder" in charge of youth sunday school.
Call bush the "moral candidate", prays that we vote for the "moral leaders" (isn't that a violation of IRS tax exempt status?), and supports the war 110%.
I told him since he supported the war so much that he should join up and go to Iraq and help. Then I dialed the local army reserve number and gave him my cell phone.
Of course he didn't take it.

18. Satellite tech who "served" in Hawaii instead of Vietnam |
|
He boasts about playing golf in Hawaii, which is where he was sent when drafted. This guy is physically imposing; he should have gone to Nam, he could have handled the intensity. He's a big-time kill-anything hunter, thinks bush is great, shrugged his shoulders when I mentioned cluster bombs killing Iraqi children. Doesn't believe bush is an AWOL deserter.
Must stop now, getting nauseous thinking about him.

20. I used to work with a guy who applied for and got C.O. status.. |
|
that is, conscientious objector status...religious opposition to war and militarism...because in 1968 he was soooo committed to nonviolence he knew he could not take up a weapon against his fellow man. War is not the answer....we should all be more like Gandhi ....
...now he works for a Republican office-holder (the office-holder is more moderate than HE is) and he can spout the hawk line with the best of them. 'you're with us or against us....make up your mind.'
he has a lovely stepford wife and two stepford kids and they live in a lovely rich republican suburb....at least he abhors SUVs and drives fuel-efficient cars...

He had a bad ankle and couldn't 'go to war like a man', something that haunts him. Of course, if he had, he woulda got plugged, he's so DAAAAMMMMMNNNNNEEEEEDDDDD dumb.
Sends me rednecked shit about patriotism under assault and the gummit taking away crosses in public places... scroll down ... arlington cemetary. Closes with TRY AND TAKE THESE!
Got into a howler with him when my nephew, already through with Kosovo and Bosnia looked like a call up for Iwreck. I told him to stop sending me his redneck crap like the one of Bush looking holy and now we were supposed to PRAY FOR HIS ASS. That one.
Told him I don't want anyone dead on a lying war, especially my sister's kid.
He wrote back, I kid you not: I FEEL SORRY FOR YOU!
Said I hated America. He got it wrong. I HATE HIM!
There. I feel better. :)

24. Reagan kid thinks he doesnt have to serve because daddy did |
|
This one's a classic.
Some priviledged, preened 20 something I used to but heads with regularly on IRC was screaming about nuking Iraq yada yada yada...when I asked him that, if he feels so passionate about it, why doesn't he enlist in the military to go help do the job himself?
His answer: That he didn't need to because his dad was in Vietnam.
Swear to the Gods, with a straight (cyber) face.
These kooks are absolutely unbelievable.

He's in his late 20s, pushing 30. A single man. A man who introduces himself by reaching out to shake your hand and proclaiming himself the "conservative" of the bunch of people he hangs out with. True as far as it goes; he lives with two leftist anarchists. How they put up with him, I don't have a clue. Still, the fact that he found 2 leftists to live with here in the far-right trenches, is a wonder.
He is a large man. Both tall and wide. He uses his physical presence, and a powerful voice, to interrupt and back people down so that he can give speeches. He loves to talk about what a wimp Bush is; how, if it were up to him, he'd have nuked Iraq a long time ago. He can't talk for more than a minute or two without quoting one of his 2 heroes. Rush and Hannity. He thinks Fox is the only decent tv news. He gleefully explains that, since Bush is such a wimp, the only way he'll get his vote in '04 is if it looks like the dems have a chance; he'll vote Bush to keep the dems out. He is a self-proclaimed libertarian.
He has never served in the armed forces. He's not interested in serving. He just wants to support the guys getting blown to bits for being warriors. He thinks our warriors ought to be engaging in perpetual battle.
He called me a Saddam-hugger. Because my picture was displayed in a local paper on February 15th, at a small peace demonstration here in neoconville. I told him I didn't see much difference between calling someone a Saddam hugger and N-lover, and that I didn't have the time or patience to deal with bigots or childish name calling; that since I wouldn't put up with that shit from my 10-year-old students, I sure wouldn't take it from him. That I'd already listened to his sexist slurs (feminazi, hitlery, etc), and that I'd had enough. He tried to tell me that he was just joking and I was too sensitive. I said name calling wasn't humorous, and that warriors didn't need to resort to it when someone stood up to them. He hasn't spoken to me or looked me in the eye since.
