Republicans have 'GOP' - let's give Democrats a nifty acronym! |
|
I don't know about you, but I am sick and tired of Democrats being called 'Dems' while the Republican Party goes by 'GOP,' the shorthand for 'Grand Old Party' (which of course they're not).
We hear things like, "GOP, Dems split on Medicare," "Dems accuse GOP of this and that," and so forth. Folks, they're talking about the so-called 'Grand Old Party.' We need to create some catchy term or acronym of our own! I mean, 'Dems' is fine, but it doesn't seem to stack up well against 'Grand Old Party,' IMO.
Here are my ideas:
AFP - America's Favorite (or Favored) Party ATP - America's Trusted Party APP - American Progressives POP - Party of Prosperity PUSA - Progressives of the US of A PJRK or JRKP - Party of Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Kennedy or Jefferson-Roosevelt-Kennedy Party (although that would be kinda long-winded, IMO.
Or how about NDP, New Deal Party? Think about it: GOP vs. NDP. 'Grand Old Party' versus 'New Deal Party.'
"NDP Sweeps Elections." "NDP Stops GOP Energy Bill." "(your favorite candidate) Wins NDP nomination."
So... creative fellow DUers, what suggestions do you have?

'Party of Truth'. Maybe it would get a few of my most cynical, dope smoking friends to get out and vote as well. :) (j/k)
LAJ-'Liberty and Justice' BHL-'Bleeding Heart Liberals'
However, my favorit so far is NDP-New Deal Party--that's a good one!

6. In Minnesota, we're the DFL |

because the Minnesota Democratic Party merged with the Farmer-Labor Party in the late 1940s.
It's very handy for headlines: "GOP lawmakers vote down DFL bill."

I am sure we can come up with something. But I don't know how we could get it used in the mainstream.
