GOP Governors end convention by endorsing Constiutional Amendment
banning GLBT marriages. I didn't think they would do something like this, but it looks like Bush is going to endrose this amendment as well. This is looking very scary.

GOP Governors Unite To Fight Gay Marriage

(Boca Raton, Florida) Republican governors ended their annual meeting Saturday with a pledge to support an amendment to the Constitution to block same-sex marriage.

The governors, meeting in Boca Raton, said they feared that in the light of the Supreme Court ruling on sodomy that said gays are guaranteed equal treatment under the law they have to move now to safeguard the ``sanctity of marriage.'' The announcement followed by days the Massachusetts high court ruling that same-sex couples cannot be prevented from obtaining marriage licenses in that state. (story)

1. "sanctity of marriage" is a religious term, specifically a Christian term
Fundies believe that Jesus instituted marriage, which means that we are all bastards, and Moses and Abraham were bastards too.

Jesus was a bastard by that definition, for he did not institute marriage until after he was born. I can't figure out when Jesus did this "instituting" of marriage. Was it perhaps at the wedding in Canaan? Was this when he was pouting by the kitchen upset that his mother dragged him to the wedding? There is nothing in that account that indicated that Jesus joined the festivities, or even danced with the groom, as it is done in traditional Orthodox weddings.

3. Someday, if we're all still here, the world will look back in disgust.

4. Not gonna happen in '04

The Governors are trying to offload their relatively tricky problem/challenge to the federal government, that's what's going on more than anything else.

The federal Republicans, OTOH, are hoping to talk vaguely and indirectly about it, but trying to pass the buck to the Governors because they're worried about splitting off a million or two or three voters in the federal elections next fall.

The solution will be to try to get rid of that tarbaby via the Massachusetts legislature, then declare victory.
