Now we have to obliterate a village of goatherds in retaliation.

I don't see this as being different from what the Nazis did in Italy. I wonder why France, Germany et al don't want a part of this fucked up mess. Even some of the anti-war people are saying that we can't leave now. I say we might as well since it doesn't look like we're going to be able to steal their oil anyway. I think we should give them $100 billion to repair the damage we've done and get out ASAP. Maybe we could send a card saying "sorry for any inconvenience we may have caused."

A General just spoke on CNN and explained that we're winning because the Iraqis run and hide rather than fight when confronted by our troops. Those little cowards! I guess he's never heard of guerilla warfare. I suspect things will get worse before they get better. What's sad is that it seems the majority still thinks this is a great little war. People are really stupid by and large.

The medicare and energy bills are so obviously meant for giving billions to the Bush buddies. Why can't people figure that out? It seems like the right wingers keep saying, "kick me in the nuts again Bush, I love it."

Sen Kennedy is emerging as our best bet to thwart this sick administration. Daschle sure as hell isn't going to do it. I've sent Kennedy several "atta boy" messages. I also sent many "you go girl" notes to N. Pelosi.

In a way it might be good if the medicare bill passes. Once the seniors figure out they've been screwed over royally, maybe they'll vote demo.

On edit:

I didn't think you'd believe anyone could be so stupid so am posting the General's excerpt. The Peter Principle caused this guy to get to the top. He was probably a very good corporal. See CNN for complete statement on Kimmit.

Despite the losses, Kimmitt said the guerrilla attacks are not having a major impact on the occupation forces' mission in Iraq.

"This is a enemy that cannot defeat us militarily, and in engagement after engagement, we see the enemy breaking off, running away," he told reporters.

1. It's like viewing all the mistakes made in Vietnam
from a parallel dimension.

…telling us about how desperate the insurgents are getting, and how wonderful it is that potholes are being fixed.

4. The anger could really be seen today.
They didn't just kill those soldiers. They dragged them out of the truck and mutilated them.

This has to be some kind of response to our new bombing campaign. We don't have good intelligence, according to our officials, yet we can drop explosives on Baghdad from miles above the Earth. I don't see how we're expecting not to hit innocent people. Unless, of course, the thinking is that none of them are innocent.

Anyway, through our actions, the Iraqis are seeing that we have no real regard for their lives. So, they're going to strike back with even more fury and strength than they had before. And things will escalate more and more as the cycle continues.

I think Bush has done a great job of disproving the effectiveness of the "tough guy" approach to foreign policy. Experience is a dear school, but fools learn from no other.

5. Quotes to muse by
Should I become President...I will not risk American lives...by permitting any other nation to drag us into the wrong war at the wrong place at the wrong time through an unwise commitment that is unwise militarily, unnecessary to our security and unsupported by our allies.

John F. Kennedy, speech, New York Times, October 13, 1960

We still seek no wider war.

Lyndon B. Johnson, statement after Gulf of Tonkin incident, August 4, 1964.

It's silly talking about how many years we will have to spend in the jungles of Vietnam when we could pave the whole country and put parking stripes on it and still be home for Christmas.

Ronald Reagan, interview, Fresno Bee, October 10, 1965

We seem bent upon saving the Vietnamese from Ho Chi Minh, even if we have to kill them and demolish their country to do it....I do not intend to remain silent in the face of what I regard as a policy of madness which, sooner or later, will envelop my son and American youth by the millions for years to come.

George McGovern, speech to U.S. Senate, April 25, 1967

It became necessary to destroy the town to save it.

Unidentified U.S. Army major, on decision to bomb Bentre, Vietnam, February 7, 1968

One reason the Kennedy and Johnson administrations failed to take an orderly, rational approach to the basic questions underlying Vietnam was the staggering variety and complexity of other issues we faced. Simply put, we faced a blizzard of problems, there were only twenty-four hours in a day, and we often did not have time to think straight.

Robert S. McNamara, In Retrospect, 1995

6. We're also "winning" in Afghanistan
KABUL, Afghanistan, Nov. 23 — Five U.S. soldiers were
killed and seven injured when their helicopter
crashed Sunday near the American military
headquarters north of the Afghan capital, U.S.
Central Command said.
