While we argue.....reminder of Gen. Frank's statement about military rule.

Foundations are in place for martial law in the US...from 2002. Refers to
FEMA, Oliver North, and interment camps.

Gen. Franks doubts Constitution will survive WMD attack.
"Gen. Tommy Franks says that if the United States is hit with a weapon of
mass destruction that inflicts large casualties, the Constitution will
likely be discarded in favor of a military form of government.
Franks, who successfully led the U.S. military operation to liberate Iraq,
expressed his worries in an extensive interview he gave to the men’s
lifestyle magazine Cigar Aficionado."

I don't like to quote Newsmax, but it is the one who quoted the Cigar Aficionado. I find it strange he said it like he was concerned. He did resign pretty suddenly as well. It just sticks in my mind.
The article from smh is excellent. There are a lot of others on a search. Gets more interesting if you include the word FEMA.

1. Thanks for posting this!
Given the tone of most of the recent discussion here, it's nice to be reminded who our #1 enemy is.

Hint for the clueless: It's not our fellow Democrats. Nor is it people who live in trailers. And it's certainly not our colleagues here at DU.

It's the fascists who are consolidating their control over this country while we sit around and snipe at each other.

2. Edwards(Newsmax) has it wrong
"It means the potential of a weapon of mass destruction and a terrorist, massive, casualty-producing event somewhere in the Western world – it may be in the United States of America – that causes our population to question our own Constitution and to begin to militarize our country in order to avoid a repeat of another mass, casualty-producing event. Which in fact, then begins to unravel the fabric of our Constitution. Two steps, very, very important.”

It doesn't even have to be the US that gets hit according to Franks...

Newsmax has it wrong as usual

Topic: Tommy Franks speculates martial law? by Hieronymus

Don't be a "Chicken Little". The sky is not falling. He was talking about an event the size of a Hiroshima. If downtown Manhattan got nuked, the public would DEMAND martial law.

It's not a scheme by the Bush people to grab more power that he was talking about. He was talking about how scared the population of the whole western world would be if terrorists aquired that kind of power, and those populations would react.

If terrorists were to suddenly kill 200,000 people in Paris, don't you think that would send a shock wave of fear around the world?

You can take off the tinfoil hat.

10. Prior to the rise of Hitler, what German city was destroyed?
None. We are talking here about the public responce to a terrorist attack of Hiroshima sized scale. That, and the gradual takeover by Hitler are two separate things.

Or do you believe that downtown Manhattan could be nuked and nothing would change?

12. Prior to the rise of Hitler, Germany was destroyed
economically - the depression devastated the Weimar Republic
socially - the wounds of the Great War and post-war instability, and the millions dead, were still fresh
politically - the middle was being torn between extremes and the fragility of the republic made attractive an appeal to order
morally - the humiliation of the Treaty of Versailles radicalized the centre to be receptive to an appeal to nationalism

Or was everything hunky dory?

11. Franks is 100% correct. Buy guns, preferrably shotguns
It's coming. There will be a WMD attack and with it will come the end of Democracy. It will become total anarchy and the only thing that will stand between a potential enemy and your life will be a gun.

I recommend shotguns because you can get them in any sporting goods store, reloading equipment is readily available and easy to use, most states do not require registration of shotguns, and it takes very little practice to be quite lethal with the weapon as you only have to get close to your target rather than putting a single bullet in the kill zone..

13. of course
if you had one of those VPC "bullet hoses", you'd be all set too lol. AK variant with 5 or 6 30 or 40 round mags would cut down on the accuracy requirement of the shooter also hehehe. They call that the "spray and pray".

One good thing about the AK design is the cheap russian ammo these guns are designed to shoot. You could lay in enough that reloading wouldn't be necessary. I think in any SHTF, unless you're holed up in your house, you won't be able to drag the reloading equipment around, or find the necessary components.

10,000 rounds of Wolf 7.62x39 would be less than $1000, and fit easily into the back of a pickup truck. I can't see needing more than that for much of anything.
