4. Tommy Thompson called it a "technicality"
said the bill was on the 1-yard line. He and all the other republicans at his press conference looked somber, which I took as a good sign.

Fingers crossed...

13. Three flips that I know of
Daschle, Graham, and Murray voted for cloture, and have voted no on this motion. IIRC, that means four more flips from the cloture vote, and this motion goes down.

19. McCain, Hagel have voted no on this point of order.
Edited on Mon Nov-24-03 03:50 PM by flpoljunkie
This is good. We have to watchfor defecting Dems. So far, there are 10 Democrats voting for this point of order, by my count.

Don't be surprised if this passes with exactly 60 votes. The fix may well be in!

21. just wondering
The party in power usually doesn't call for a vote unless they know they have a victory in hand or want to make the opposition go on record as having opposed it, do they?

24. they will paint dems as obstructionists...
and I admit...it's a smart strategy...it doesn't look good when our guys keep filibustering bills, regardless of how bad they are. The pukes will have plenty of ammo to use next election "We tried to expand medicare with a $400 billion drug benefit and the dems filibustered. Tell them to stop holding up the people's business...yadda yadda yadda"

get ready to see a bunch of those commercials

25. I think a point of order contention limits debate
to 2 hours. S this vote wasnt really called.

Right now they are holding the vote open past the deadline. Serious deals being made right now on the floor methinks.
