Edited on Mon Nov-24-03 05:10 PM by robsul82
"Are you calling me a draft dodger, Tom? If you are, then say it to my face."

And Dean gives DK plaudits for voting no on IWR, to applause from the audience!

Later.

4. Dean's answering the draft question
...not too well, I might add.

And is now taking a shot at Kerry for supporting the admin's war.

Gep: "Howard, you're all over the lot on this issue..."

It's getting ugly.

9. It seems that if a candidate didn't serve in Viet Nam
or at least in the military, then he is getting hammered. While it may be helpful to have military experience, it isn't essential. But Brokaw seems to think it may be, especially to Dean. It is probably a plus if a candidate has some REAL military experience(not some awol bullshit), but I think a man can be a good president without it.

24. After talking to Kerry about Dean, to Dean about Dean, Brokaw turns to Gep
And Gep talks about Dean. Talks about Dean's ads. Why are you all over the lot on these issues? I'm not all over the issues.

kerry wants to jump in now, but Brokaw punishes him for not talking about Dean when Brokaw wanted him to talk about Dean.

So he lets Clark talk about Bush.

Clark says "don't make IWR vote a litmus post" -- hey, did he read my DU Poll yesterday?

Clark says somethhing like, if Iraq War wore a movie script, it would be flop.

Audience claps. Brokaw then tries to deflate him. Brokaw talks over Clark. "It was a big mistake" (re first day of campaigning, support for Bush??).

Clark criticizes Bush for not visiting American families. Applause.

Over to Kucinich...

Admitting failure is step in right direction.

My plan: handover to UN, change composition of security force (NATO led), CANCEL HALLIBURTON NO-BID CONTRACTS -- MILLIONS IN TAXPAYER MONEY, THEY CAN'T BID ANY LONGER, BUT THEIR PREVIOUS CONTRACTS ARE STILL OPERATIVE.

Thanks for that.

The press has NEVER gone after him and examined his inconsistencies on the resolution.

Maybe Gephardt and Kerry are sick of Dean getting away with claiming he was staunchly against the war and the resolution, when he really wasn't.

59. Dean: Saudi Arabia -friend, enemy or what?
Dean addresses B-L and 87 bil. I didn't understand point about B-L, says the record shows he didn't support 87 bil (which I totally disagree with -- the record shows that he tried to straddle the fence).

Says SA made a deal with the devil...didn't understand the point.

Kerry wants to talk about B-L: says Dean supported it, it had a certification, it was fundamentally no different than IWR that passed. Says Clinton did things with no congressional authority, and Bush could have done the same, and (implying) passing a bill was better than letting Bush act as Clinton did.

70. Oh, so that's why Kerry voted for IWR
He wanted to get Bush to go to the UN instead of acting unilaterally, since he already had the authority to invade.

That's funny, for a while Kerry was saying that he only voted for the IWR to give Bush the real "threat of force" to make Saddam comply with the UN.

I guess this is Kerry's IWR explanation ver 5.1

61. Dean nails the difference between Bidden/Lugar
Bush would have had to come back for a second vote.

I know a lot of people like to paint Dean supporters as being totally anti-war. Not all of us are.

Now Kerry is trying to say Bidden/Luggar is the same as what they voted for...that it only required an authorization of the pResident.

Now that's totally wrong. I was one of the major Senate Watchers of the IWR. The second congress vote was the major reason I supported L/B.

78. It was Kerry's preference
He wanted to vote for B/L according to his speech when he voted for the IWR, so it doesn't make sense that they were virtually the same, according to him.

64. Dean sounded like Dore Gold
He toed the Likud line on Saudi Arabia completely. I agree with him on SA, but his close ties with AIPAC are worrisome. Can he be objective in the Middle East or will he reward AIPAC's aid and toe the Israeli line?

74. So, you toe the Likud line on Saudi Arabia?
I agree with him on SA

If not, then why accuse Dean of it, since he sees it the same way you do?

67. Maybe it's time to amend the Constitution and let the presidency be a
committee, like a city council. I'd gladly have every one of these candidates as co-presidents! :D

Dean exposes his IWR support via Biden-Luger. Bush did not have to go back
to Congress for approval.

82. Wrong...Kerry is wrong on that
Bush DID have to go back to Congress a second time. Kerry just misrepresented that bill totally.

71. The UN is not willing or able
to go onto Iraq right now. We need to form international control. Get control back to the Iraqi people. Clark is so smart. He KNOWS how to fix Iraq. He KNOWS how to get our troops home! He can do it. He can talk to the international world. He can deal with the UN and THEY WILL deal with him, he's respected. Unlike someone else I know. :(
