Witness:
* large trade deficit; we rely on other countries far more than they rely on us.
* we don't manufacture anything; we've shipped it out to other countries because 'it's cheaper'. This has happened in some industries and the trend is grossly increasing.
* We so heavily rely on foreign countries' sources of energy, that if any one of them were to stop selling to us, we'd be toast. Sources which will run out within 2 or 3 generations (1 generation = 20 years) - and that's assuming we don't increase our reliance on the filthy toxic shit!!! I say we have 30-40 years left, probably less.
* Not that the citizens have ever been united in terms of specifics (in terms of glib generations, most of the American will stand behind any dipshit dumbfuck, even if the dipshit dumbfuck knew of a disaster and allowed it to happen...), but it won't take much more to be a REAL civil war. The "cold civil war" the pukes started 12 years ago (and rarely fought back by the Dems, with 3rd parties speaking up far more loudly)
* Our people in power have done lots of things to antagonize the rest of the world. (our politicians and corporate entities...) More and more people outside the US are protesting against it. Like the bumper sticker said, "Organize!"
* The government is betraying the rules it created for itself (Constitution/Bill of Rights). Not that it's ever been 100% faithful to them and wants to find new ways to not be faithful because, let's face it, rules and justice and fair play become big nuisances when they hinder us from power or greed.
You'd think a superpower wanting to stay in power and live on would not waste resources, find renewable resources, treat people with respect, be fair and just, follow the rules it created for itself, not allow itself to rely on others far more than they rely on us, and have ALL its own citizens be productive.
So far, the only thing I'm seeing is history about to be repeating itself. I'm amazed it lasted this long though. Chalk another up to human folly.
On edit: * We also create big treaties in the name of free trade, but on inspection it's clear only the US gets the goldmine. Everyone else gets the shaft. NAFTA was the start (you Canadians will love the US once there's an energy crisis and we freely help ourselves to your resources thanks to NAFTA), just wait for the FTAA...
