Why is Bush flying into Baghdad supposed to be heroic?
If he endangered his life, he was endangering the life of his pilot and staff and the soldiers on the ground at the airport. That sounds stupid and callous not heroic.
This was one tacky, tacky trip, another one of w's Stupid Presidential Tricks. The equivalent of a college road trip. Which does make you wonder how sober they are in the White House these days. Maybe Rush wasn't using all those pills.

4. Its heroic to some people because
George gave up his precious thanksgiving dinner to make a self-sacrificing trip to a war zone to serve dinner to the troops to build up their morale.

Wait...he exploited a family holiday and those without family with whom to celebrate for political game.

I get those two confused so easily. My bad.

5. Coward didn't want to go
Andrew Card saw an opportunity for a photo op, and took it, to counter the flight deck "Mission Accomplished" disaster. It's clear that Shrub was scared to death to go; that's all over the news stories. Hope Condoleeza held his hand all the way over. Heroic? No, just another reelection ploy. Effective? Maybe. The public eats that stuff up. In a second Bush term, he can cower from those frightening protestors and (gasp!) newspapers. And try to close them both down, as he will.

7. This is the most refreshing column I've read in a
long time. How to the point. How clear and ringing. Thank you, Eleanor. I'm going to copy it and give it to a few people. And combining the health bill is great - and all they get is a card.

11. He bombed so bad in England
they had to dream up something.

Too dangerous for US president in land where jubilant liberated Iraqis were to be lining the streets strewing flowers...

Without the massive defensive systems and fighter escorts that go with AF One. You got me pal.

10. Imagine if his plane had been hit
Would Cheney be nuking them just about now? And what do you want to bet that attacks on that airport and incoming planes are going to be on the rise?

12. I just had a run-in with someone on my town website
who was raving about what "guts" W had for flying in there, and how he's such a target for the terrorists that "Bill and Hillary enabled", but he went bravely nonetheless. . . !

I raved back about how he stayed there 2 hrs and ran his little ass back onto the plane. And how at least a hundred Americans have died since he said, "Bring em on!" and how Daddy helped him avoid that scary Vietnam by getting him that posh Texas Guard spot, from which he went AWOL, but Daddy fixed that too!

Guts, indeed!!

14. Talk about the low expectations
Our "Cat Burgler" pResident shows up at the Baaghdad airport, cries like a blubbering baby, hands the troops a turkey, then leaves. If that's heroic I should have a bronze star by now.
