(yes, I referred to myself in the 3rd person. Sorry)
Looking back, I just finished the best day of campaigning for my congressional run so far. Damn, this is fun. I MUST encouarge anybody who's ever been interested to give it a shot. It's a roller-coaster ride and worth every minute so far.
A summary of my day....
- I had a meeting this morning with a very influential Dem at her home (she's run before in this area, and everybody knows her and her husband). She actually cooked breakfast for the meeting (home fries, HOMEMADE french toast, fruit salad, bacon, orange juice). The meeting ended up lasting three hours, and I got a TON of great advice. She's promised to be on the phone to her friends that can help me out (which includes 2002 Gubernational candidate Tim Hagan and his wife Kate Mulgrew.....yes, that's Captain Janeway).
- I spoke to two marketing consultants for the campaign. We set up a meeting for next week. I'm going to hire them, no doubt about it. They are currently the marketing experts for Dennis Kucinich's campaign. A nce little addition to my column, I must say.
- I was invited to speak at the Wayne County Democratic Holiday Party on December 17th. Apparently, my early work on Howard Dean's campaign caught some eyes down there, and they are very excited to have me running in the 16th District.
- I scheduled my first local fundraiser, a pancake breakfast for Saturday, December 27th. 10 dollars a head, 5 for children, 20 per family (up to 6 people). Guaranteed 1,000-2,000 dollars for a mornings work. 800-1,800 after expenses. Already have a chef on my volunteer staff, and I've got enough former waitresses on staff to handle the entire day's event.
- I scheduled my second local fundraiser, a New Year's Eve party. Location TBA. 50 dollars per head, 80 per couple. No idea how many it will attract, still working out details of expenses. Starting it at 8pm, so local Dems can attend and move on to their regular parties, and so my friends can show up late and party after hours.
- I scheduled my third local fundraiser, a party one hour prior to the Ohio State Bowl game (either Fiesta Bowl or Orange Bowl). 35 dollars per person. Fundraiser will end one minute before the game begins, and we invite people to stay for free to watch the game....it's illegal to charge people to watch an NCAA game on television. Stark County Democratic Party is donating the hall for the fundraiser, expenses are only the food. Woo hoo!
- Started a contest to revamp my webpage. I'm not very proficient at building designs, but can update rather well, so I had to nail down the weakest part of my campaign thus far...the web page. A few people have responded. If you're interested, see this page

So now I've been celebrating with a glass of chardonnay (brought home a little extra from the Kucinich House last night), bounced off the walls to a few punk bands on my MP3 player, and now I'm gonna go watch a movie (a friend brought a copy of Gothika over).
Days don't get much better than this one very often....I'm gonna enjoy this feeling.
