In fact you don't need the contract either. I also bring up Derek Pitman of the Arizona Cardinals who enlisted to become a U.S. Army Ranger after 911. That puts their excuses completely on ice.

9-5b. Laws and regulations that govern military personnel may change without notice to me. Such changes may affect my status, pay, allowances, benefits and responsibilities as a member of the Armed Forces REGARDLESS of the provisions of this enlistment/reenlistment document.
For many young people, especially, it would be hard to imagine signing any kind of employment contract with that sort of clause.
