I do find your complaint a tad ironic, given when folks were urging a more focused/positive tone in discussions so that issues rather than flame wars would be the main point, there were a few voices advocating for the more in-ones-face tones... so perhaps there is now more agreement that the tone can indeed lead to a rather juvenile tempered discussion. When folks choose to obsess on candidates pumping up one and slamming another - the room for sharing ideas, discussing policy issues, and organizing for the greater good - sort of gets shunted off to the corner. Go figure.
