Actress Jessica Lange and Bush remark today.
Edited on Thu Dec-04-03 12:40 PM by Marlie
Jessica Lang was on the Ellen show this morning and they were
discussing how she has a new problem. She grinds her teeth at night
and wakes up with a very stiff jaw each AM. She said "It's probably
the Bush Administration causing it". Ellen said something like
"won't comment on that". You could see Ellen didn't want to touch
that remark but at least Jessica got her little jab in and received a
loud round of applause from the audience after the remark. She's
great.

14. Ellen's show is totally apolitical
It's very upbeat, doesn't touch controversal subject matter (from what I've seen) and I haven't seen any political pundits from either side as guests. I find it rather old fashioned and quite refreshing, actually.

15. Maybe, but maybe another side to the story...
I really don't have that much of an investment in celebrities, and what they say and do. This is just an idea for discussion, so... please don't live up the the "screaming" in your handle, 'K?

Yes, I wish that *EVERYONE* could speak up freely about all the issues they believe in. However, at this point in time, we have all been very effectively divided by years of propaganda by the Reich wing.

I don't know what is in ellen's head, so I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. She took quite a brave and risky step by "coming out", and speaking to the issue of gay and lesbianism. She took quite a few hits for that, and it set back her career for some time. She is very fortunate that she was able to get *any* show, and seems to be doing OK with it. I can understand if she is feeling the need to walk the line of safety for now. We all have our limits of how much we can fight, and what issues we can take on.

To me, the problem is that we have been so effectively divided. If we had had years of *LEADERSHIP* since the Civil Rights era, and had been led and educated to understand how everyone's struggle affects our own, and to join together to support each other and those who are also struggling but with different issues, we wouldn't have been so easily divided. As it is, it is asking a LOT to insist that someone in the public eye take on all issues. I know that I would break under that if I tried, and I have no reason to assume that everyone else is so much stronger than I am. WE all do what we can do.

The big picture is poopy, but I don't think we can hold individual people to account for *everything*. It's up to us as a group to do the hard work of bringing everyone together, given that we have had a dearth of leadership in this area.

Again, I have no desire to argue about this...... I'm putting this out there as a point to be considered.

Thanks for listening.

Kanary

17. Good post, Kanary!
I remember when Elie Wiesel spoke in my area several years ago and said that the problems do seem overwhelming, but the solution is for each person to do just one thing... and then, when that is finished, do another.

I know I don't have the personal resources to be involved in many "causes" that I'd like to be able to involve myself in, but I do my "thing."

Ellen is blessed to be able to do much more, or at least much more publicly, than most of us. Thanks to her for all she has done already, all for all that she will continue to do... in her own way and in her own time.

5. I have the same problem.
My dentist tries to get me to wear this blue piece of plastic at night to prevent it but I keep hoping it will end when Bush is on his return flight to the ranch.

12. wear it, you'll be glad
Mine got so bad during these Bush years (haha) that the pressure started to mess up my teeth. Went to dentist, teeth hurt. Six abcesses!

That piece of plastic made a huge difference. Just an FYI. :hi:

19. Wonder how many people
have developed Bush-induced bruxism over the past 3 years. Not to mention a list of other health problems created by stressing out over that asshole, like ulcers, shingles, etc.
