Dean Attacks Bush for Unemployment Figures in the Economy |
|
Dean Responds to Unemployment Figures
DES MOINES--Howard Dean commented on the November unemployment figures released this morning, and how, despite the growth, this administration has compiled the worst economic record since the Great Despression:
"Today's job announcement is another link in the chain of President Bush's broken promises. When he proposed his program of tax cuts for the rich, he said they would create 306,000 jobs a month. November's 57,000 job record puts the administration even further behind its promise -- and puts the American worker further behind the eight-ball.
"Worse yet, manufacturing -- the heart of American prosperity -- continued to lose jobs for the 39th consecutive month. In November, another 17,000 American factory workers got the unwelcome news that they lost their jobs -- just in time for Christmas.
"Meanwhile, the Administration and the Republican Congress refuse to take up the extension of unemployment benefits that would help millions of jobless workers in the new year. It's time to take back America and put America back to work."

Congress should have acted on this before recess and it's good to see this issue being raised. But, in the bigger picture I was looking over on Dean's home page for some detailed economic/manufacturing/job creation issue papers I could only find a couple of rather generic pieces.
Is there another repository of policy statements that I could check out anywhere? I'm not flaming. Dean may be the eventual nominee and I'd like to learn a bit more.

2. good....turn marginally good news into bad news for Bush |
|
Keep accentuating the point that Bush has cost Americans lives, money, homes, families, jobs, and security.
This president has nothing to be proud of and Dean should remind him of that every day.

4. The figures are a joke - more like 10% |
|
Long-term unemployed are not counted in the figures; once you're off the unemployment compensation rolls, you disappear. That's what the Dems ought to be talking about, regarding unemployment. My 10% figure is just a guess. Probably higher, given the problem.

personally who have exhausted unemployment and can't find work. My dad has been out of work for 2 years. He applied for an aircraft manufacturing job yesterday (with 26 years experience in the field). They told him the ad was in the paper one day, they had over 100 applicants overly qualified (just like him). And the pay was just over 10 an hour.
I am supposed to believe the good times are here now?

6. is there a link or was that it? |
|
couldn't agree more with Dean on the unemployment benefits. But like someone said in an earlier thread, Bush will just sign an extension for the holidays and again end up looking like Santa.
