‘Scarborough Country’

<snip> In this case, this man’s richness, the fact that he is a zillionaire, exonerates him. He is not a drug dealer. We don’t need to be prosecuting him.

Am I mistaken, or is there something wrong with this picture?

14. Tell that to the Max Factor heir
Having tons of money didn't exclude him from being found guilty of raping, drugging and videotaping the rapes of his victims.

7. The part about him not being a drug dealer is probably true.
He certainly doesn't need to deal drugs in order to keep himself supplied, like so many junkies do. He's a rich user, not a dealer.

15. Could be.
What I doubt is that he was selling anything he managed to get ahold of at a profit. Seems more likely that he would stash it away for himself, since he didn't need the money and the stuff is hard to come by.

27. Quantites that large are *AUTOMATICALLY* delivery charges under the law
He's a dealer *because* the quantities were huge. The laws in the drug war were written to discourage possessing large quantities because of the automatic delivery charges invloved.

He's a dealer under the law because he purchased such a vast amount of the drug.

26. Bullshit logic
He damn well did deal drugs because the quantities he purchased is AUTOMATICALLY classified as delivery under Florida law. There is no getting around the dealing charge because of the vast quantities.

By the letter of the law, he's a dealer.

13. a tangent on Abercrombie and Fitch...
it cracks me up how practically the only places I've seen the Abercrombie and Fitch photos are on TV, discussing how bad the photos are.

Back when I had Fox News, I was laughing my ass off how while they were discussing how bad Britney Spears was, they had her videos playing in split-screen throughout the whole discussion.

It's so laughably hypocritical, they're using sex to sell their programs at the same time pretending to be decrying that practice, so people can tune in to leer at Britney and feel self-righteous about it.

19. Rush is using the "Victim" defense. Oh the irony...
If Mr. Limbaugh were black and/or poor he would be up for 30 yrs. mandatory minimum - no questions asked. So instead, he has the nerve to paint himself as a victim....

I say if he skates, the number of appeals for "The Limbaugh Treatment" should be astronomical.

23. likely he is a drug dealer
The law doesn't say that you have to be distributing drugs for profit to make it illegal. It merely says that you cannot distribute them. In the quantities Rush was acquiring, it is a dead certainty that he was providing pills at parties or in some other way sharing them with his drug buddies. I don't doubt he did so free of charge, but it's still distributing.

I didn't know that doctor shopping was an offense, but I'm glad it provides a paper trail for prosecuting him, as it's clear he is going to walk on buying the black market drugs -- drugs that were almost certainly stolen from people in terrible pain. I have no patience with people who are hooked on Rx drugs and who buy them on the black market. A heroin user has a weakness but the OxyContin user is making things more difficult for cancer victims and others with terminal pain issues. This hits too close to home for me. Abusing prescription drugs is not the same as cocaine or heroin...it is much, much worse because you are taking from people in need.

29. He doesn;t even have to distribute to be a dealer
The quantities alone makes him a dealer automatically under the law. The laws defining possession of large quantites as dealing were written to discourage possession of large quantities of drugs.

25. "distribution" does not have to be for profit to be illegal
Somebody needs to tell Joe Scarface that.

There is simply no way in hell he could have ingested all the pills he scored. He would have been dead.

Wonder if his wife has the monkey on her back too? Would make sense. How could anyone stand to ...... well, never mind. The thought is too repulsive to consider.

32. i thought wilma cline said rush hid it from his wife
I feel terrible for the wife if she didn't know. She probably feels dirty and stupid and is kicking herself for not seeing. Awhile back I learned that an acquaintance had died of a drug overdose, at which time it had been revealed that he had been a lifelong severe drug addict. He told me -- not once, but many times -- that he had had a brain tumor removed and his behavior, memory loss, etc. was because of the medications. Now I feel like an idiot, and I wasn't even close to the guy. You just feel like you should have known and gotten some help to the guy. But any time he acted weird, I just put it off to the "brain tumor."

It must be a zillion times worse to be married to someone like that.

Sigh. Drug addicts lie and deceive. It's part of the illness.
