I'm beginning to like Clark more and more
Not that I disliked Clark before and my support is and will remain with Dean, but, I just saw a clip of Clark's appearance on The Daily Show (the only REAL news on TV) and was pleasantly surprised. I hadn't had an opportunity to see him in a more relaxed setting and was delighted to see his candor and sense of humor come through. I knew he was a smart guy (one doesn't get to be NATO Commander without it) but it really shined with his "state of apathy" remark. Very witty and I love witty people.

1. He comes across as an o.k. guy.
But, I don't know...he still kind of looks like David Byrne

in his big suit.

30. You may find yourself living in a shotgun shack
You may find yourself in another part of the world.

Now, did anyone see Randy Newman perform "Political Science" on Conan last night, and mention that we're closer to the lyrics now than when he wrote the song (in, I think, 1971)?

4. If you get to see Clark
When Clark is outside of the 9 candidate 45 second sound bite format, he almost always comes arcross as a highly likable person. He is candid, enthusiastic, and witty, and always comes across as thoughtful and direct. He often seems down right boyish when he lights up during some banter.

People used to say in the last election that Gore was too wooden, but Bush was a guy they would enjoy having a beer with. Clark certainly isn't wooden, and while you may or may not want a beer with him, he's the guy I would want by my side in some kind of family crisis, sitting in my living room, helping take charge of the situation while keeping everyone at ease at the same time. Clark's natural appeal coupled with his sterling resume makes him a very reassuring candidate to most of the public. Clark's appeal is broader than Dean's, in my opinion, which makes him a more dangerous threat to Bush.

It never seems like Clark is ducking a question. He gets stuck sometimes tryijg to find the middle ground between giving a 20 word generality statement, and going on at great length on a topic, which is more his natural inclination. Clark actually wants people to know what he thinks and why he thinks that way, which is refreshing. He is improving at giving short statements without seeming too dull or vague though. It is a political skill, honed through multiple campaings, and Clark is actually showing a very fast learning curve. He is dramatically sharper now than he was two months ago.

I have a multi millioneer customer turned friend, who recently retired as CEO of a major Silicon Valley firm (he's still Chairman of the Board). I got him to donate $500 to Clark's campaign. This guy voted for Bush and doesn't tend to trust Democrats. Clark is the only one he might vote for.

12. I do want to have a Sam Adams (his choice) with Clark.
and while you may or may not want a beer with him, he's the guy I would want by my side in some kind of family crisis, sitting in my living room, helping take charge of the situation while keeping everyone at ease at the same time. Clark's natural appeal coupled with his sterling resume makes him a very reassuring candidate to most of the public.

Clark and I share a mutual friend. When I was growing up, she was the smartest funniest person I hung out with. We had these routines we would do because both of us had memorized so much poetry and read well beyond our peers. I am not comparing myself to her, but in a small steel town, we were quite the duo. I wrote to her recently, and she has assured me that he is the "real deal." Funny and smart, that's the way I like it.

What I really wish for is to sit in a room with Clark and some brainiacs, like my friend, and just listen. A interviewer who spent hours with Clark over several days remarked that it is not just the breadth of Clark's knowledge, it's the depth. We only see the surface during the campaign, with an occasional glimpse of the what lies beneath. What is hidden is his ability to "see" what others can't. When he looks at America, he not only sees what is wrong, he sees a strategy for fixing the problem.

An example would be healthcare. The fixes from the candidates are just bandaids meant to improve but not rock the boat. Clark, who offers his own bandaid, has spoken of the solution in terms of years. In that he is correct, but moreover, he knows that what really needs to be done, that all Americans need guaranteed healthcare and that must be the goal. Getting all of our kids covered, streamlining the costs, and preventive medicine for all, his current proposal, is just the foundation for the eventual structural change that must take place.

7. Really?
Gosh, I certainly wasn't aware of that. I mean, doing 2-3 hours of research on this stuff everyday, having been involved in politics for the last 30 years and the fact that this same song has been posed about Clark 2,573 times already, I had no idea. (/sarcasm) :eyes:

14. And he voted for Clinton and Gore!!!
Jeeezzz, lots of people voted for Reagan and Nixon. I almost voted for Reagan once, and my parents were staunch Repubs before the religious right took over the party. Now they are (almost) stronger Dems than me! My mother adores Clinton and they both have voted Dem for 14 years.

How about addressing candidates' records over the last decade before dredging up ancient history.

21. He has the same exact voting record I had except I was too young to vote
for Nixon. Born and raised Republican. When you turn over to the Dem Party it's like being an ex-smoker. You are a RABID Democrat. I've worked on 8 Dem campaigns now. It's kind of like doing penance for my sins. I hope no-one questions my credentials.

24. Yeah i guess that explains it
since you put it in the non smoker analogy. Its still weird though. Imagine if he wins. You have a democratic president that agreed with Nixon and Reagun. I would vote for Clark, but i would rather be voting for Dean. How bout a Dean/Braun ticket. :-)

I am impressed at what a quick study he is in this political game. He holds his own with the talking heads and he does connect with his audience.

13. I'm liking him more and more, as well!
Of course, I've liked him a lot for a long time (when he was working for CNN), but the more I see him, the more I like and admire him.

I missed part of the Daily show appearance - saw the last half or so - but it is SO fun seeing this guy in every different type of situation. Could bush go from the ripping Faux a new one to the debates to the town hall meetings to the Daily Show, to the International Trial of Milosevic???

18. Always have liked Clark.
He gets my support for the nomination, though it isn't looking good.

I will support Dean if he wins the nomination though.

Still wish Clark and Dean would team up. I truly believe they would be unbeatable.

29. I started out being thankful for his candidacy.
That's where I still am. He is an absolute perfect fit.

Clark will strengthen the Democratic party immeasurably. He can reclaim and restore the true meaning of patriotism, the courage of liberalism, our honor and reputation.

Clark can unite and lead. The big picture is the country and then the world. Clark has what it takes for the small picture, the Democratic party and progressive politics. But most importantly, Clark scales perfectly to the world scope.
